Why is Gary Patterson not at the top of everyone’s list?

He would be a home run hire. I don’t understand why he is coaching at Texas. Is it just to keep himself around the game in a stress free job?
Is he thinking he would take over after Sark? Would he leave for the right job and what would that be?

Why? That would be Lane Kiffin if he doesn't take over a Alabama when Saban retires. He's not going to Auburn.

He openly spoke out against NIL, portal, etc..which is fine until you realize your rivals are embracing it. Going to make it hard to recruit that way.

Not sure he wants to deal with the recruiting aspect anymore.

He really started to run TCU into the ground his final 4 years there and the great success they've had in year one under a new HC doesn't help Patterson's candidacy. That's not to say he couldn't have success elsewhere in the right spot. It just that he's not looked at as a "great HC" right now.

His last 6 seasons at TCU were as follows:

6-7
11-2
7-6
5-7
6-4
3-5

On what planet is that a "HOME RUN" hire LOL? This is a serious thread?

His replacement, the mighty Sonny Dykes, is 11-0 in his first year on the job. So what was Patterson doing?

Because he's old, can't recruit, and likely might not want to be the HC of a program anymore.

Well this is the most important part. It wouldn't even matter if he were great. If he isn't chomping at the bit to get another job, why would you expect him to give 100% to it?

He's probably just at the point where he wants to be around the game but not in that intense of a position as HC.
