He’s a fantastic oline coach. He was working with a patchwork quilt of lower standard players (on a championship scale) and at the back end had them performing above their heads.
He was using a true freshman at LT…..and one that needed a RS year.
If Davis is retained, I will not be unhappy.

LSU does not pass the eye test, fat, slow, out of shape. I think Davis did what he could, the problem has been Conditioning and Nutrition for the last few years. I would not pay Davis to go away, he Raymond and Baker would be on my keep list, if they leave it would be by their choice.

You mean this guy couldn’t fix Kregg’s mess since June without even a single recruiting cycle. He MUST be a terrible coach.

Don’t underestimate that O was holding assts back. Magically, as soon as he was gone TDP suddenly became a better RB (was that OL “improvement”), the defense changed and became dominant (so do we blame O or Jones for the first part and who gets credit for the second half?). A big part of the supposed pass protection issues was actually not OL play but the fact that Max sits back there for hours just holding the ball. Was that Max not making quick decisions or Peet’s not calling plays that would get the ball out of Max’s hand quickly?
Football is way more complex than “well the OL sucked so it must be the fault of the OL coach who had less than half a season to work with a group that had suffered for years with poor recruiting, lost a starter to weed and suffered several injuries

That OL wasn’t fixable in that short of time. We’ve had those same players on the line for a while now. And he came in late. Definitely not enough for me to make a call yet on him. He supposed to be a damn good OL coach.

Well he inherited every one of those players and he got in kind of late on the hire. He is highly regarded and should be given a chance to recruit his own players moving forward. He is from Baton Rouge so he definitely knows the area.

He only had a couple of weeks with the oline before the season started to get to know the players. So yes at the beginning it was rocky started but as you stated as the season progressed so did the line. Just imagine how much he can improve them with a whole offseason to work with them.

It was the worst unit because Orgeron and Cregg continually whiffed on recruits and then weren't able to develop the players that made it to campus. That’s why we had to go find a center from Harvard. There wasn’t a person on that line that will be drafted.

Because he’s a hell of a coach maybe? The man inherited a DOGSHIT O line and although they were really bad, they did show marked improvement toward the end of the season. I think he pays big dividends if he is retained.

Because he is one of the best in the business. He got here at the start of the season and had no time to teach much less having time for the line to gel learning his principles. It’s ok if you don’t understand this but don’t act like he’s not a top flight o-line coach.

They were easily the most improved unit of the team this year. They went from awful to pretty good by the end of the year.
