Because it's a very risky hire. He's had one year of experience in DI football and has never been on the SEC level.

I don't like the Gus comparison. He's not smoke and mirrors, revolutionary mad genius. I don't even know what type D he runs, but he's just a great teacher and motivator. No flash, just a great coach.

If we would have struck out with Muschamp, I think Clark would have been at the top of Auburn's shortlist. Not as big of a name, but I would have been satisfied with the hire

This is mostly conjecture on my part, but I'm not sure Clark wants to be a DC right now. It'd be one thing if he took a demotion because he sucked at being a head coach (Garrick McGee says hi) but he lost his job due to bullshite and corruption. AFAIK, UAB still has to pay the last two years on his contract. Maybe he'll sit out a year and make them pay him anyway.

He runs a very aggressive defense. He blitzd ALOT with his defenses at USA. As a result, any option team destroyed us. We got schooled by cal poly (fcs triple option team that finished middle of the road that year) at home by like 40 points.
He was alright tho and I'd take him back in a heart beat. He really had a dream team going at uab with Vincent at oc and him at hc.
Although i also agree with above poster. He may hold out for a hc gig without a big raise and you need to ask yourself if 1.2m or whatever is worth an unproven commodity.

I didn't say JT Curtis was ever college football coach or that JT should be hired as the DC. I simply said JT Curtis' name is well known and outside of Alabama who really knows Clark? The guy was only a head coach for a short time and spent 99% of his time coaching high school football.

All of this. He is an outstanding coach who is huge on discipline. I am amazed someone has not picked him up yet.

Not true. 17 of 24 years is 71%. 2007 was his last year as a high school coach.

i grow tired of hearing this "well that was high school" crap...When you are good, youre good..period...Malzahn was a high school coach, Chad Morris was a high school coach...experience isnt everything...Talent and a sharp arse innovative mind is alot...
