Why is Art Briles so highly regarded as a coaching candidate?

He never was an assistant at a major D 1 school besides a few years at Texas Tech. Sure he help to turn around UH and Baylor but those are small time programs compared to LSU. His overall record is 99-65 and 3-6 in Bowl games. The two big bowl games he went to at Baylor they lost. His team really didn't have any defense. I don't want 55-48 football games on the regular at LSU. He has the rape cloud that happened in his watch at Baylor. This is not someone I want as my coach at LSU.

His offense is incredible.
However, he is human garbage, disregards the defensive side of the ball, has never been out of the state of Texas, and is 60 years old.

Because people are idiots. They remember Baylor hanging 70 on Kansas and get all tingly.
People in Texas (who, I will admit, hate Baylor) have told me he was human garbage at Stephenville HS, too. Sacrificed his HS kids to serious roidz and is the typical win at all cost assh*le.

Baylor was awful before he took over. He probably had 2 or 3 rebuilding years before he started doing well. Saban or Meyer wouldn't have been able to turn Baylor around right away- the program was in such horrendous shape when he arrived.

He took the laughing stock of the Big 12 and made them into Big 12 Champs. He beat OU and Texas regularly toward the end of his time at Baylor. His defenses improved dramatically in the last 3 years. And he was sacrificed in the whole rape thing. Read this and see if it doesn't at least make you think twice: Hmmmm
