He’s been actively keeping up with and studying the game and new offenses. He’s not going to try and start implementing his old playbook.

None. It’s silly to think improving the programs image isn’t a good thing, but it’s just one of the reasons I like the hire. He’s just by far the best option, if he really is an option. Frost is a distant second.

Because they think he's the guy that'll come in and beat Alabama, Georgia and Florida for them.

It’s not but why do you guys think a coach that hasn’t coached in a decade and is living off 1 SB win but an otherwise fairly mediocre record is they guy to do that? Because of TV he’ll be known and create some buzz that will wear off quickbif he doesn’t win.

His drafts at Tampa were also awful.

Out of 16 players he picked in rds 1-3 from 2002-2008 none made the pro bowl. Add in his love for having a difficult offense with crazy long terminology(Doug Nussmeier anyone?) and this would be a train wreck. This would be Bill Callahan at Nebraska or Weis at ND bad. PLEASE HIRE HIM TENNESSEE.

There is some risk involved. But the potential is easily worth the risk.

I couldnt agree more with this. Why would you want him?? He is a great commentator. He needs to stick with that. Tennessee would be making a huge mistake. I would rather a young coordinator than him.

Guess I'll just post this again.

I mean, of course a kid would wanna play for a coach that won a Super Bowl and built another team that made it to a super bowl.

Of course a kid would want to play for a guy with 28 years of NFL coaching experience and a guy that won his division 5 out of 11 years. A guy with too many NFL connections to count.

Of course a QB would want to play for a coach that has so much expertise that he has his own show on the biggest sports network in the world dedicated to the position.

I just don't get it.........derp,derp,derp

On top of that you get a coach with tons of personality and charisma that every football player/fan in the world recognizes.

Dude is a football junkie that has continued to study and develop the game.

That said, there's a chance that it wouldn't work out in the long run, but I'm pretty sure most any program in the country would be willing to take that chance.

LSU is likely going to be a bigger program for the foreseeable future

And Les Miles would actually be a great stabilizing force for a program like Tennessee

Usually when someone answers a question with a question it’s because they don’t have an answer to the question that was asked, this is even more so when they aren’t even addressing the question that was asked. I mean if someone asked if he could recruit you question/answer would at least fit

My question to you would be what makes you think kids that were born around the time he won said Super Bowl would care? I’m pretty sure there are lots of people that have NFL connections but what does that matter to a player? Someone that wants to get into coaching/the front office/broadcasting sure but I’m pretty sure the NFL found guys at Tennessee with Dooley and Jones as coaches.

The rest of the resume is overrated. We like to think that it takes some special great coach to win the SB but it blinds us to the holes in his resume. Brian Billiack, Gary Kubiack and Tony Dungy all won Super Bowls and have tons of NFL connections I’m sure so why not them?

They have to do something. Their brand is synonymous with abject garbage right now. They can't even keep legacy recruits. LEGACY.

Wow, your entire post is really vague, meandering bunches of nothing. If you can't figure out why a player would wanna play for him, and how he'd have a good chance of being successful, then there's really no point in trying to have an intelligent conversation with you.

Edit: Changed the answers out of question form since you were unable to pickup sarcasm as being the reason I did it that way.

For starters no one is asking if or why players would want to play for him, that’s really a silly point. No one is suggesting players would avoid Tennessee because of him. There’s a lot more to recruiting than just showing the kids a Super Bowl ring, a ring that’s basically as old as the kids he’d be recruiting. His resume obviously wouldn’t hurt and may sway some kids but the question is will it be enough? I seriously doubt it. If you look closer at his overall record it’s pretty mediocre, I think Tennessee fans are getting blinded by the ring and hype from his TV persona.

Lol, I pointed to much much more than the SB ring, but carry on with whatever it is you think.

No one can guarantee he'll be successful in the long run, but that is the case with every coaching hire. Yes, eventually the buzz would wear off, but again, that's the case with every hire. It would be a home run hire, anyone that thinks otherwise is sticking their fingers in their ears, kicking their feet and screaming.

Since Kiffin there's been a big hole in recruiting. Butch pulled some big names but it was mostly guys that Richt and Saban didn't want. He was never a real threat to build a top tier program.

Jon Gruden's name would help a lot with recruiting. I'm not sure what kind of staff he would put together but I think we're just ready to see a guy who can compete for top recruits again. I see some of the reasoning behind Gruden, but I'd rather have Chip Kelly to be honest.
