Why does tOSU get to use two coaching staffs this bowl season?

They are the only school in the country that is being allowed to have one new coach complete his coaching staff and recruit while the other coaching staff prepares the team for its bowl game. Think Michigan would like that set up. tOSU isn't the only program going through a coaching change while preparing for a bowl game. Houston, USM etc. tOSU and Urban Meyer with NCAA all over its arse and who could be going on double secret probation gets permission to effectively do something no other school in the country can do. That is, be in two places at one time. The new head coach on the recruiting trail while the previous head coach is preparing the team for the bowl game. Permission given by the NCAA no less.

Penn State got the same waiver. A&M has applied for and should be granted the waiver also. From my understanding it just allows an incoming coach to hire his assistants without releasing any of the current coaches until after the bowl. Each time a new assistant is hired one of the previous coaches is taken off the recruiting trail.

Ya, UNC is doing it too I believe. Also Michigan did it when RR was hired.

As the other guy said, A&M requested (and supposedly has been granted) the same waiver, however, we are being told that the staff will not be rounded out till after the bowl games which is kind of contradictory.

Ohio State has lost coaches as well. Either way, the NCAA gave them a waiver like they often do. Go be a pissy bitch somewhere else.

The waiver for Ohio State isn't unprecedented. According to the NCAA, six such waivers have been granted in the past five years and five waivers have been granted for this year alone. Although the NCAA doesn't release the specific programs that applied for the waiver, we know three of them this year: Ohio State, Illinois and UCLA.
