Fickell picked Cincinnati up out of the basement and has them in the playoff hunt consistently now.
They are in the playoff hunt for the first time and it involves a lot of P5 teams losing.
If you like that, look at what Franklin did at Vanderbilt. He won 24 games in 3 years. I dont Think any other coach has won that many in less than 6 at Vandy.

True but that’s skewed because he has the most recruits. He’s behind Alabama with about 10-15 more recruits than them right now. They are top-10, but you think they’re beating OSU in two weeks?
I realize all of that but you're crazy if you think Franklin has recruited a bunch of guys who can't play. Franklin is quietly starting to send his fair share of guys to the NFL.

NOT COVERED UP RAPE????maybe....i know its a high bar, but one i think we need to get over.
If Penn State of all places vetted him, and was comfortable hiring him, then you need to get a grip on the reality of him being considered.

possibly not lose 6 game in a season twice and have a losing season??? again .......high bar, but damn i think we can somehow find someone that is better.
Name your realistic candidate then.

I think Franklin is a reasonably good coach. His ceiling in the SEC is 11-1 or 10-2. Floor is 7-5 or 8-4. He’s a fine coach. But we’re talking about trying to get the best here. Not just reasonably good. That’s my point. Franklin is settling because we wanted to get rid of O so badly.

It’s certainly a good point about Vandy; he has success there. But the problem is that he hasn’t elevated Penn State since he got there. He peaked in 2016 and hasn’t hit that again since. And meanwhile Fickell is improving every year. How many coaches do you think could take Georgia to the wire with that roster? And have them at #2 7 weeks in?

What has Franklin ever done in his career even if not recent to warrant this job?
He went 9-3 his last two years at that powerhouse Vanderbilt.
Last six years at Penn State-
11-3
11-2
9-4
11-2
4-5
5-1
But for last year, a year when a lot of programs failed miserably, he's proven to be a very good coach. I would not hate the hire if he became HC.
Who at LSU has had a better resume prior to being hired as the football HC?

I know people missed it because we were winning a national championship, but he just won 11 games and a Cotton Bowl 2 years ago.

UCF beat Auburn, and then took LSU to the wire with Frost and Heupel respectively.
Do you think those rosters were significantly better than Cincy's? Ridder has been a fantastic 4-year starter as well.

Don’t really care about anyone’s 2020 Covid record, my issue would be his Vandy title 9 baggage, which is just as bad if not worse than Os or Les’s recent issues
So i find it funny when I see people cross off guys like Lane or Hugh Freeze because they would be a tough sell with the investigation going on, but at the same time think Franklin is the Golden goose we should be chasing

Why does Franklin get a pass on going 4-5 last year?
Been at Penn State for years now. Goes 4-5
Have you heard of a thing called Covid? It effected different teams in ways that are hard to quantify. I give every coach a pass for last year. Even O. This year, no passes.

ummmmm yea since penn state has routinely shown good judgement in that area and his rape stuff is a matter of court record. He viewed the video and suggested the players delete it. and it was a video of them raping one of his own hostest then he had the frickign giant balls to call her and ask if she would be available to host recruits the following weekend.....yea sorry i dont want someone liek that

Fickel
Cristobal
Napier
Kiffen
Aranda
Chadwell
Fleck
Campbell
all as much or more upside than franklin and without the BS.

Been an average P5 coach
Won at Vandy when the East was it its lowest point ever
He pissed off a lot in the SEC when he tried taking his recruits from Vandy to go to Penn State.

Big Ten championship, 3 NY6 bowls, and 3 top-10 finishes.
Now tell us what your desired candidate has done.

quote:I love both of those choices, but Riley ain't leaving Oklahoma, especially after they are getting into the SEC.
Riley or Fickell. Riley’s made the CFP multiple times and become to most sought after QB coach in the country. Fickell picked Cincinnati up out of the basement and has them in the playoff hunt consistently now. A lot more impressive than one conference championship and 3 NY6 bowls. I’m not looking for an NY6 bowl coach; I’m looking for a CFP coach.
From reports everywhere, Fickell doesn't seem like he wants to leave the area, and Cincinnati just got accepted into the Big 12.

Franklin apparently makes $7 mil/year and his seat is cool as ice.
Why would he want to move to Baton Rouge and have the pitchforks after him if he doesn't win the SEC every other year?

quote:This is idiocy. Franklin has had WAAAAAAAY more success than O, Miles or even Saban before they got the LSU job, and they all won championships. Franklin has also successfully made two programs relevant after prior mediocrity or disaster tenures. Those two programs are higher academic programs with higher standards to get in. Those programs are in the two toughest conferences and at the time two of the 3 toughest divisions. When he was at Vandy winning 9 games Mizzu, UGA, Florida, and South Carolina all had at least one 11+ win season. When he was at Penn St winning 11+ games Michigan had multiple 10+ win seasons, Ohio St was Ohio St, and Michigan St had a 10-3 season. During that time they also played 10 win Kentucky, 10 win Northwestern, 10 win USC, 11 win Minnesota, and 11 win Wisconsin. He's played top competition all around.
If you want to be in the same level as Clemson or OSU, you need to make Riley and Fickell realistic candidates. Or you keep the leash super tight until someone better than Franklin comes around. It’s the only game in town fallacy.
-He's coached against the best competition
-He's coached against the best recruiters
-He's won against top coaches
-He's won against top programs
-He made Vandy, VANDY successful in his time
-He has 3 top 10 finishes and might have a fourth this year (in a 6 year span)
-He recruits well at a program that you wouldn't really expect that from.
LSU would be stupid to not want Franklin. He is by far the most accomplished head coach that we have ever had prior to them coming here.
He's in my top 4 for sure regardless of who we get.
