He already knows he cant win a NC there. He can at LSU. Both Miles and O have shown him that it can be done. I don't buy that should OU make the playoffs he just stays. He's made the playoffs before, it's about winning the NC. Rest assured Riley's agent Bob Lamonte and Woodward are speaking.

If he does say no, then it's time to swing for Aranda. It should be a no go for Tucker, Franklin, and Napier.

The playoff will be expanded around the time OU comes to the SEC. OU likely won't go undefeated in the SEC for a while, but you wont have to to make the expanded playoff. When Saban ends, things will be wide open again too.

Loyalty.

Look at his comments about firing guys mid-season. He is not a fan. LSU has done it twice in a row. He wants suggests they use the NFL rule that says both teams have to agree if a HC wants to move to another school.

Does that sound like a guy in talks to go to LSU?

do you think the reason he loses those games is because he’s located at OU, and not because he almost completely ignores one side of the football?

He can win a NC at OU. And no, he doesn't have to be undefeated. OU has made the playoffs four times. They had a loss each year. This year is different due to close games and weak schedule. They need to win out.

I know it's been a while since they hoisted the natty, but OU has a history of winning or getting very close. Very few down years.

Lincoln's been the HC at OU for 5 years. He's only 38 y/o. FWIW, Nick Saban won his first natty when he was 52 y/o...his 10th year as a HC.

Lincoln inherited a bad DC (Mike Stoops) and defense. For all the good that Bob Stoops did for OU, hiring Mike a second time set OU back for years. There were way too many kids recruited by Mike that should have never gotten a scholarship offer. Still a couple of kids that need to be (nicely) flushed out of the program.

Alex Grinch has made the defense better (you'd have to know how bad it was internally). This year, not so much, some of that is due to injuries of several starters (best DL, best CB, best S, etc). There's been a lot of shuffling of the lineup(s). It worked against Texas Tech (I know they suck). We'll see vs Baylor, Ok St, & Iowa St. All of their starters should finally return against Baylor. .

Why would a coach leave a program like OU for LSU? A program that just fired a championship-winning HC? Lincoln has complete control at OU but more than that, he has job security. He walks on water so to speak. Why give that up? It won't be money. OU will match any and every offer.

Recruiting is what most point to on here. Yeah, nah. OU has a top 5 ish roster while spending the 12th most on recruiting - LINK. OU, and Riley, can recruit enough talent to compete and/or win the natty.

OU, as they go to the SEC, needs to hire more analysts and they need to spend more money on recruiting. That's the plan. There's no reason for Lincoln to leave.

perhaps he can't get the horses on that side of the ball out to freaking ou.

miles was able to get great defensive players to LSU.

He can’t win a natty with that recruiting base. Everytime they make the play-offs they get crushed in the semis. He’s coming

OU for all its successes has an average class of 9th. That’s good, but it’s usually good enough for 4 or 5 at best in the SEC. I don’t think Riley leaves, but you’re overselling not only how well OU recruits relative to its successes, but the ease of recruiting to a flyover state.

Sorry BB1, but OU does not have top 5 recruiting classes, and I doubt they will, it will get worse when OU gets to the SEC, OU can expect 2-3 losses every year when they have to play SEC West teams back to back.

What was that Delly stat in his interview? Over the past 5 years, Georgia has landed 20 5 stars, lsu 9…and Oklahoma 5.

Oklahoma the most successful team in the big 12 is landing five stars at half the rate of lsu and 1/4 the rate of Georgia which hasn’t won anything

Because he was handed the job and is very loyal to Stoops and Switzer and AD

OU will match any offer LSU makes

He has everyone returning next year including a Heisman favorite QB

He will be favored in every game until they come to the SEC

Overselling? Nah. All I said was OU can recruit enough talent to win the natty. I'm not suggesting that OU will start signing top 3-5 classes. We'll have to see there. Maybe every couple of years.

According to 247 Team Talent composite, OU has the 6th most talented roster. Just a nudge behind LSU. OU has more 5 stars (7 to 6).

Things change. You can't really look at the past, not without knowing some of the reasons, and make a final judgment. Riley is very pro-portal. OU will maintain a top 5 ish roster and that's enough to compete in the SEC/playoffs.

There's just no precedent. I don't know of any coach of a playoff team that left to go to one with a losing record that just fired their coach.

One thing I ask is what would I do if I were in his place, and I'd stay at OU if I were him, unless the money offered made it impractical to stay. There are always pros and cons to every possible decision.

I'm not saying it can't happen but since there's no precedent I'll have to see it to believe it.

Why would it get worse?

...so A&M improves but a program with a better track record of success will get worse? Because they're in a flyover state? Nah, that defies logic. OU currently has a more talented team. A&M just beat the mighty Alabama with Zach Calzada at QB.

OU will be fine in the SEC.

I thought the OP said "why does everyone think Riley stands OUT at OU", and I agreed with you. I don't understand why everyone is so enamored with him like he's the best coach in the world, when he's never really faced any adversity or had to rebuild anything.

He took over a ready-made juggernaut at OU, one of the top bluebloods in all of CFB, and has simply maintained it.

quote:

He already knows he cant win a NC there.

And this part is another thing that gives me pause on Riley. As previously mentioned, he took over a ready-made powerhouse in a weak conference and he can't win the big one.

He's never had to scrape and bust his arse for recruits, top 5-8 classes are just built-in at OU. He's never had to rebuild a roster that's decimated by attrition and transfers. He's never had to completely change a culture in the locker room from losing to winning. He's never had to pick a flailing team up off the floor and get the wins rolling again.

LSU is gonna need someone with rebuilding experience and someone that knows how to fill roster needs ASAP through recruiting and the portal. If Riley were great in that regard, OU would have better lines and a better defense right this moment.

Those "better Louisiana recruits" that everyone keeps touting as a reason for him to come to LSU are available to him right this moment where he is. He's at a top 5 blueblood of college football that recruits nationally, there's no reason he couldn't have them now. But he doesn't.

I think he's undoubtedly a great coach and a great football mind, but he's not *everything* like he's made out to be here. He's not a guaranteed winner or the "Saban killer" like everyone feels, but he's definitely worth the gamble if he'll listen.

I just think he's among several other coaches that aren't necessarily at top P5 jobs currently, and isn't head and shoulders above any of them. He also doesn't seem like the best fit for what LSU needs at this moment, which is a grinder and a rebuilder.
