Why do people think chatter among fans at the game is reliable info?

I remember the same stuff going around Atlanta a few years back. Do people consider the gossip credible because someone said it to their face or do they figure anyone with a cotton bowl ticket and LSU hat on is a high powered booster clearly in the know?

If you say you have a "source" then you = legit.

That's all you have to say. "I have a source." That makes you qualified.

kind of like changing your bet while in line at the track because the scruffy dude behind you said his friend told him that the trainer for the 6 horse is going to turn him loose today...

We all want to believe a certain thing, so anyone that gives a hint to that being fact = a source.

Unfortunately

Michigan delay combined with belowpar is far more telling than the guys with 'sources' IMO.

I hope Miles stays, but if he doesn't get rid of Crowton, he can gtfo.

I remember at the LSU/Iowas Capital One bowl the talk after halftime was that Steve Spurrier was in the sky box watching the game with Skip and would be announced as the new coach the next day. Don't know where it got started, but we forgot there was a game at that point.

It's not even that credible. People make up stuff for a few reasons.
1. They are just wanting to stir up the board.
2. They want to act like they are important.
3. They are just severely attention deprived.

I know someone who makes this claim all of the time. "What I'm hearing is..." and it is always a group of fans of team X. And by a group, I mean like two guys at a tailgate or whatever.

I've heard from 2 people relatively close to the team that they don't know anymore than me and you do

some old Choctaw in the elevator in Atlanta before the game told us "Did you hear, we just hired Jimbo Fisher?"

At the Capital One Bowl vs. Iowa (Saban's last game at LSU) a guy sitting in front of me in the stands SWORE he had inside information that Steve Spurrier had already accepted the job at LSU. When I told him I doubted his story, he actually got very angry.

Why do people do this sort of stuff?

I heard the same thing. The guy said he heard it from next guy to him at the urinal. Haha. He said spurrier couldn't get into Augusta. Lol
