Helton sucks but he's in his first year. Nobody gets fired after 1 year.

I keep seeing this idea of Helton being fired after 1 year mentioned.

The honest answer is we don't know what will be an open job yet.

I agree with you though, I think a place like OU is more likely.

Coaches don't usually get fired after one year, but SC made a huge mistake promoting him, and they may realize that and make a change.

Stoops would have to retire, and I don't see that happening.

I agree. Charlie Strong won't have a bad enough season to get canned because the Big 12 sucks. Brian Kelly is going to be safe at Notre Dame.

Things are looking good actually.

They aren't firing another coach after he has only been there 1 year. That would look very bad

Stoops is not getting fired. To a certain extent he's failing to live up to the high expectations he set last decade. That's causing some understandable frustration from OU fans. But even in his recent less successful years he's averaging about 10-3.

Watch OU still win the Big 12. Their two losses are to two of the best teams in the nation and neither were conference games, and the rest of their conference sucks. Wouldn't be surprised if they beat TCU on the road this weekend. I think they'll still be alright. Don't think the OU job opens up personally.

If anyone deserves to be fired after one year, it's Helton. He's that bad and the program is cratering.

Not disagreeing with you but Ellis Johnson at Southern Miss is the only coach I'm aware of who got canned after year 1. He took 1 year to make a 12-2 team 0-12.

Anyway, why did USC promote an assistant from a fired staff? That seems bizarre to me.

Because things are bad at SC right now. They have an AD who didn't make the hire and has no reason to be loyal to Helton. In fact there's probably more incentive to fire him and make his own hire.

I think you gauge interest from some big names behind the scene and try to get a deal worked out. I mean if u can get Herman, obviously you fire Helton. If not then you keep him and tell everyone how much confidence you have in him.

the program is a shite show and the incompetent AD that hired him is no longer there
