Why do people act like it's...

so difficult to transition from college to the pros? Is it recruiting? Is sure as hell can't be coaching, because from a pure coaching perspective, the NFL is THE PINNACLE of coaching. Yet, everyday when I come on this board, I see post after post claiming that NFL coaches either don't understand the college game or are not accustomed to it, which will lead them to be failures.
It has to be recruiting, but think about it. What is the one thing most recruits want? An Education?
A family atmosphere?
In every elite recruit's heart, they want to play in the NFL, and if they feel a coach offers them a better opportunity to reach that goal, that's more than likely where they will sign.
In a lot of ways, that's what Carroll sold. It's what Saban now sells, and it works better than almost anything out there.
So, please, think before you post in another thread claiming that some of the brightest football minds in the world cannot sell an 18 year old kid on playing for a coach with extensive NFL experience.
It's simply not reasonable.

You give me Saban and Carroll, I give you Dave Wandstedt, Chan Gailey, Bill Callahan, Charlie Weis, Ron Zook, Lane Kiffin, Mike Sherman.
You make one good point, but the fact remains: college and pro are different ballgames, different everything....and is the reason that coaches' successes in either league don't typically translate back-and-forth. They are completely different animals, different players, different structure, different hours, different demands, different leagues, different everything.
All that said, history shows us it is an easier transition to go from Pro to college than from college to Pro, but neither category is flooded with success stories.

Yes they are totally different
But
I would think it would be easier for a coach in the NFL to have success in college more so than the other way around

It's the difference between college and the world outside. A college prof may not be able to run a business and a businessman might not succeed as a college prof. A college coach is more focused on teaching, while a pro coach is more focused on management decisions.

It's a different skill set. One is babysitting amped up kids, and teaching them along the way. The other is managing entitled millionaires and their personalities. One you're a dad, the other you're the highest level of business personnel manager. Very few are good at both of those jobs.

I think sell is the key word. Can you imagine Bill Belichick trying to sell you something? Amazing coach, but he's kinda creepy. The skillset in the NFL is somewhat different, you still need great vision and leadership ability, and at least decent technical knowledge, but you don't have to be a people person. As long as you manage to go into a team without pissing off your franchise QB and star wideout within a couple of weeks lack of people skills shouldn't really set a coach back too far, not true in CFB IMO.
