Do we go to the Wisconsin well one more time? (Jim Leonard)

We could possibly look to Michigan State again (Mike Tressell), but it was only his first year. In that year, though, he fielded the nation’s #1 rush D, #2 efficiency D, #8 scoring and 3rd down defense, and #10 total and first down defense. Kind of like a Defensive Joe Brady (almost). At MICHIGAN STATE.

Edited to remove Jimmy Lake.

Or a sleeper pick like UAB DC David Reeves?

Mike Tressell has been at Michigan state for a while so it's not like he's young and unproven.

Plus the fact that they had those numbers after Harland Barnett went to FSU helps his resume.

Too bad Derrick Mason didn’t get fired this year. He would be a monster hire as a DC.

the best replacement would be Venables....the realistic replacement is Bill Busch

That’s potentially problematic. If we promote him over Raymond, that might be the end of that. If we don’t promote Busch, he may leave and go with Aranda to Baylor.

You say this like it's a surprise. Michigan State has had stout defenses since Dantonio got there 13 years ago.

No, he’s expected to return. It’s an assistant job.

You say that like Michigan State hasn’t had a history of great defenses.
