He’s a dead man walking after almost being fired last season and now a losing record. How good of a job is it?

I think they get a Kendall Briles type

They won't touch Freeze. I think their coaching board will include:

Bill O'Brien
Joe Moorhead
Will Healy
Dave Clawson

Surprise name:
Ken Niumatalolo (will move away from triple option if given chance at bigger school)

Oh yeah, If they’re smart, Chadwell is who they should hire

Sounds like a perfect fit to me

Agreed. That job has Chadwell written all over it.

All the VT fans are clamoring for Napier or Herman...I just do not see Napier going there. Herman would be ok and at least make us competitive. He would not have to worry about alumni in the football business.

Last year, the rumors were they interviewed Freeman from Cincy now ND.

Remember our AD brought in Tuberville to Cincy...and quickly worked to get Fuente which seemed like a great hire at the time.

Seems like Napier or Chadwell would be perfect hires. I wouldn’t touch Herman with a 10 foot pole after Texas. That program had culture and discipline issues under him and that’s a sign of a guy who doesn’t run a tight ship.

I hate that Fuente didn’t work out there. I’m from Memphis and still live in the area and have nothing but respect for the job he did pulling the Memphis program out of the basement and completely turning it around. I thought he was a great hire at the time and I still think he’s a good coach. Unfortunately, you have to recruit and make great staff hires to have sustained success. He didn’t seem to nail either of those things at VT.

If Napier turned to USCe and Auburn, I don't see him accepting VT

I think Fuente can still be successful somewhere. His problem is he has been too loyal to his old friends like his OC Cornelson who is just garbage. It's scary that it is like what Beamer went through when he had to fire his old friends to go to a new defense. But this is not 92 and people are tired of it and Fuente has been adamant that a change was not needed.

The same thing brought down Cutcliff at Ole Miss. He was too loyal to his buddies and wasn’t cutting it in recruiting. He doubled down on not changing and they had to can him.

VT is a sneaky good job. Weak conference, fertile recruiting in-state and surrounding area, passionate fan base.

It’s certainly better than South Carolina - by a long shot.

Napier didn't turn down Usc or auburn. He wanted total control in hiring and other things and the schools said no

Hugh Freeze, Liberty HC seems like a no-brainer first choice.

Dave Clawson, Wake Forest HC could potentially get a look with the success they're having this year. He knows the Virginia area well.

Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina HC also could be a solid choice. Seems like it's only a matter of time before he makes a move up.

Dave Aranda, Baylor HC. He's a defensive guy and VT is known for their defense. It also seems like a slight move up from Baylor

I think VA Tech is one of the schools that won’t adjust well to this new era of college football. They had a good run but I think the days of winning 10 games and playing in a major bowl are over for them

I think the next coach will determine this...we have a talent rich state (not LA deep but still lots of skill). Fuente and team really pissed off the state with Texas to VT, NC to VT, etc... Yes, the high school coaches in VA have big heads, but you have to play the game.

If we keep talent home, 10 wins in the ACC is very achievable.

Our conference:

VT
UVA
Pitt
UNC
Duke
Miami
GT

Not exactly murderers row with BC as our crossover. Minus Miami we should have more talent than the rest.
