Who was really impressed with Chavis this season?

I was never impressed with him this season at any point. Yes, we improved a lot from last year, but impressed? This isn't a huge loss if he leaves IMO

It's a huge loss if we can't replace him with someone better.
Is he worth $600k/year as an elite DC? I would say no, but if there is no one better out there for Miles to hire, then keeping Chavis is better than losing him.

Not Impressed at all. Any improvement from the year before is laughable. The prior defense was like swiss cheese. This d still gives up way too much yardage and seems passive at times.....ie 3rd and Chavis. Was he an improvement? Yes. Is he the answer? I seriously doubt it.

Then Miles needs to do his job and initiate contact with prospective replacements.

I don't particularly trust his preparedness, so I wouldn't be "sure". I hope he has though.

I'm sure Miles knows what he's got in this cat, and is/has surveyed his prospective replacements.
With the flux in the coaching ranks what it is, it's the head coach and AD's jobs to keep a current roster of prospective hires for each coaching staff position. After all, looking at Chavis' form, he's one biskit away from a massive coronary. . .

he replaced porter and gonzales pretty quick. plus if we really are gonna dish out 600K im sure we could get whoever we wanted. that would be almost double nix's salary and probably close to or more what herring, edwards,grantham, herrmann make as NFL position coaches. snyder is unemployed so any would be good for him

3rd and chavis was a bitch but overall we improved and ranked pretty high nationally in scoring D in his first year. we could do a hell of a lot worse IMO.

i dont want him to leave but i wouldn't be upset by it. He improved us alot but i dont really like his scheme

Would you feel better if we were ranked 4th in the SEC?
...because the difference between being ranked 10th and 4th is approximately ONE extra 3rd down stop every 2.4 games.
Statistically, LSU was slightly above average on 3rd down nationally. The SEC has 10 teams packed in the top 44 nationally. There simply isn't much difference between 4th and 10th...and the 3rd down conversion rate wasn't nearly as big of a problem as you think it was.

No, the overall percentage wasn't a huge problem. The timing of 3rd down conversions and lack of three and outs was more of the issue.
