What's with the obsession with Cory Raymond? I don't get it.

If Cory Raymond is so great, why hasn't another school hired him already? If he's so great, why did Florida also fire him?

Very telling that he’s not been announced… tells me either Baker wanted to be involved or more likely he isn’t a candidate. Or maybe they’re sandbagging the announcement

Sandbagging announcement. He was never truly happy at Florida and it showed with the production of their CB’s.

What did utsa fire Frank Wilson? Does that mean he can’t recruit LA?
Why didn’t Kelly retain Blake baker when hired? Does that disqualify him as a good coach?

And here it is! CR is not happy and therefore doesn't perform well at his job. But, he surely cashed those checks when he was at Florida.

He benefited from Ron Cooper wave of DBU just like Les Miles benefited from Nick Saban. DBU was already established when he got here so like a previous poster says if he was so good he would have a job by now.

I think much of the Raymond talk is based on the obvious emphasis on Louisiana with the other defensive hires: Bo played at LSU, Baker played at Tulane and coached at LSU and LaTech and the DE coached at Tulane.
I would’ve expected Raymond to have signed on with someone by now, if not LSU, another in-state school even a ULM or Nicholls. Pretty clear he believes he’s going to get another SEC gig?

Maybe you should read any of the other 100 threads parroting the same dumb question. If you did, you'd know that Raymond apparently has been offered other jobs. By all accounts, he wants to be at LSU. There are few DB coaches in the country with his resume. You'd have to be pretty stupid to think many teams wouldn't love to have him.

This is the beauty of the rant. We love to shite on Napier for being a bad coach but somehow we trust his judgment on Raymond. Maybe Raymond was unhappy with the downward slide in Gainsville and was butting heads b/c of it. Maybe Raymond wanted out and they fired him so they could pursue his replacement. Maybe Raymond was the scapegoat b/c they also fired their DC. The truth is, none of us know the real answer.
But here's a thought... From 2022 to 2023, Florida's record got worse. Napier is an offensive coach; his offense got worse. The defense improved from 2022 to 2023. After 2022, they gave Corey Raymond more responsibly as he went from coaching only CBs to all DBs in 2023. The passing defense and total defense got better and Napier still scapegoated the defense. So maybe just maybe, CR is a good coach and we should trust the opinion of BK over Napier. If BK hired Raymond, I think it would be a great hire. If he hires someone just as good or better, I'll still be happy. But please for the love of God, stop making dumb threads.
