So as I understand it everyone now can have 10 Assistant Coaches. By my count that means LSU still has a vacancy and it's been promised to Aranda. Here is where I think we are:
Head Coach: O
1. Offensive Coordinator: Ensminger
2. RB Coach: Robinson
3. TE Coach: Joseph
4. WR Coach: Sullivan
5. OL Coach: Cregg
6. Defensive Coordinator: Aranda
7. DL Coach: Johnson
8. Outside LB Coach: Vacant
9. DB Coach: Raymond
10. Special Teams: McMahon

I've read that the next defensive assistant coach might be a safety's coach, but regardless has anyone heard anything on that front? I can't find anything...

From what I have been told by inside sources, there is a very extensive search going on for the best & brightest defensive coaches in the country.

Prolly end up with a high school DB coach from NOLA.

If Corey Raymond is DB coach, do y'all really need a safeties coach? Obviously I don't know how Aranda delegates responsibility but if Raymond was my DB coach I would let him coach all DB's. Raymond is an exceptional football coach.

If any of us know it, Aranda knows if far better than we do.

I wasn't questioning Aranda, that dude is the real deal. I was just wondering the reason behind taking the safeties away from Raymond. They are both excellent coaches.

My understanding is that the safeties will also be a subgroup of outside linebackers. Our OLB coach is now the dline coach, so theres that missing link there. I assume Raymond controlls DBs/Nickel and Aranda does LBs and overall defense. However, those OLBs and safeties who are basically undersized OLB need help playing kinda both ways.

Ok that makes sense. It's like Saban having different coaches for inside linebackers and outside linebackers. The system dictates different responsibility for both positions.

He is an exceptional DB coach, but Aranda runs the defense and may feel his safeties need special attention in his defense. LSU was only able to make 3 defensive calls last season and I tend believe it was due to the safety play. There needs to be a QB in the defensive backfield just like at ILB. I can also only imagine how much more Raymond can accomplish with the CBs if he is able to put all of his focus there.

Joseph will still be WR coach. Sullivan will be passing game OC but no doubt work with WR's as well.

No OLB coach. Maybe Joseph works with them again as well.

I believe McMahon will coach TE's on top of special teams.

The new hire will be a safeties coach. That's what Aranda wants.

Also, Cregg will be running game OC. We will have three co-OC's with SE calling the plays in-game.

Come on guys, put this together- Aranda wants to groom Raymond this year to take over as his DC next year and wants to let Raymond spend a year grooming the New DBs coach!

A safety coach would free up more time for Raymond to learn the intricacies of Aranda's defense so he can become DC when Aranda is made head coach

**?** beat me to it
