Nope, never called anyone a failure. Just saying that an overrated WAC team put 59 points points on UCLA. I looked at the stats after your response. One INT. Don't know where that put the football at that particular time. Three other turnovers. Once again...don't know where BYU recovered the ball, but best case scenario...28 points.

Bear with me here. I realize he's a pretty popular candidate, stemming back from last offseason. Looking at his stats this season, his defense was ranked pretty poorly in Scoring Defense and Total YPG. I'm not incredibly familiar with UCLA football, so could there be some explanation for the regression of the defense from 2007 -> 2008 that still allows for Dwayne Walker to be considered a top flight defensive coordinator?

He's NOT a top flight DC. He's mediocre at best. LSU can and should do much better than this. His defenses at UCLA are mediocre every year. Yeah, lets go hire a mediocre DC from the West Coast with no contacts in the South and little knowledge of what it takes to stop S.E.C. offenses. But hey, he's Black and a "Great Recruiter" so lets sign him up a la D.J. McCarthy. (Also came from U.C.L.A.) We all know how that's turned out. (Great recruiter that can't technically coach a lick). Hiring Walker would be too big a gamble, which is something L.S.U. just can't afford right now..........

Was given several opportunities to say he was staying at UCLA, but never shut the door fwiw.

noticed that

he even slipped up when talking about his defensive guys by saying: "I can't..ah.. wait to coach them again"

I could see LSU paying him a good bit more than that. Pelini's salary was substantially higher than that all totaled, plus as the poster above said money goes more than twice as far in BR compared to LA.

Never Understood The Walker fascination this board has.

In 2008:
UCLA gave up almost 30 points a game.
Did not average an int a game.

In 2007:
UCLA gave up more yards than they did in 2008.

2006 was his only season of giving up less than 20 points a game.

Best I can tell is a couple of things on why folk are high on him:

1. He's black

2. He has NFL experience.

3. Folk like the "style" of defense he implements. Folk appear to give him the benefit of the doubt because he coaches at UCLA, thus the massive amount of points they give up.

In December 2006, his defense held the rival USC Trojans football team to under 10 points for the first time since 2001. It helped the Bruins end a seven game losing streak in the UCLA-USC rivalry.

Following the dismissal of UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell in December 2007, Walker was asked to be the head coach of the Bruins in the 2007 Las Vegas Bowl. Dorrell was offered to opportunity to coach a final game, but declined.[3][4] The Bruins faced Mountain West Conference champion Brigham Young University, a team they defeated earlier in the season. BYU beat UCLA 17-16 when BYU Cougars defensive lineman Eathyn Manumaleuna blocked a 28-yard field goal as time expired.[


here's a couple of games where it appears his d performed very well. so which is it? he sucks because of b.y.u. or he's great because he kept the mighty trojans out of the n.c. game?

these arguements are useless. you can pick a game from every coach. There isn't a consistant top 5 d.c. out there. Charlie strong struggled last year and is great this year. What is the difference? More likely than not, better players.

Randy shannon was considered the best in the business at one point. All of sudden, he doesn't know defense?

walker has the background and knowlege to be a very good and maybe great d.c.. He's considered the pac 10's best. With that in mind, he'd be a very good hire and upgrade for l.s.u.
