re: What's going on behind the scenes at LSU?

who is to say you know what they mean?
Let's just say "from days gone by and many loaves of bread shared". Ask yourself this? What is the name of the meeting room on the Northwest corner of Tiger Stadium? Then tie a "son-in-law" to the name, whose has a "best friend" and "former teammate" lawyer and the number '66 and a particular bowl game. That's all I can give you, you will have to "run the rabbit".

What's your opinion as of tonight?
My opinion is that if he doesn't come back to LSU it will be becasue it was blocked from the LSU side not coach Saban.

There is also someone else in the banking community there that I met some time back at Shoal Creek. I dind't know him, but some of the guys we were playing with (developers) did....does that ring a bell as well?
I know who you are tlaking about but I don't know him personally. My best friend knows him well. I spend a lot of time with a friend at lake martin in the summer. He lives next door to Tommy T and he built his house for him.

And know this, if everyone thought Mark Emmert was strong in the process, they "ain't seen nothing yet" when it comes to Dr. Lombardi. Trust me on that part of it!
Now that's what I've been waiting to hear! To me, that was the biggest variable in the whole situation, Saban or not ... who is going to lead the charge, find a solid head coach and make it happen. I honestly do not know much about Lombardi at all, but I'm glad to hear that he'll be "taking the bull by the horns" because his past history at other schools shows that the man knows what he's doing when it comes to major college sports' hires.
My worst fear is that no one at LSU would take charge and go get a top notch coach. With Bertman on the way out, and O'Keefe being O'Keefe I have been concerned that the whole process would be handled poorly and we'd end up with a coach that the majority would not be happy with.
If Lombardi is in fact "in charge" of this situation, I feel confident we will all end up happy in the end.

You talkin' about Dr. Andrews?

I never thought in my lifetime that I would ever say this, particularly in it pertains to the point at hand, but I belive that to be a very realistic possibility.

Pj, what is the dynamic between Weems and Lombardi? any idea? Weems has been a Saban guy since the trip to East Lansing in '99. I don't go to board meetings or really keep up with the politics of the board since Lombardi arrived. I just wonder how that relationship affects all of this.

I am not personally doubting you PJ, just pointing out that on a message board everyone is up for skepticism.

Not necessarily, I would think Dr. Lombardi certainly has an obvious relationship with Steve, that if the OBC wanted the job, he certainly would have a shot at it; as well as knowing, and despite all of the angst over the last year toward Nick, most LSU fans would be "quick to kiss and make up" provided there was some form of a lock that Nick would be here for at least the next decade. I certainly don't know which way he would go, but from all I have heard, "it's not buisness as usual" with the Board of Supervisors and some the "I'm in charge-type" of big financial backers as it pertains to Dr. Lombardi. Those that are working with him sya he is a "unique breed" who has a "lead, follow or get the hell out of the way attidute" and he is not afraid to take on the BOS as well as any politician who lies in his path. My personal belief is that he is "da man" when it comes to the next hire. And if that makes me a "douche" then I guess I'll go apply to Massengill?

pjtiger, tell them that there is a big Birmingham piece to this puzzle that people often forget to associate with LSU.
What part in this does Andrews play? I guess what I'm really asking is who is his guy?

It's OK if you did, that is what a board like this is all about. I guess you could say though, I like one of those "old" guys in the western movies that you see "hanging around the old General Store" (LOL)

who is this Lombardi dude?
He actually had this to say about Spurrier in the Baton Rouge Business Report.
Q: If rumors about Les Miles replacing Lloyd Carr at Michigan turn out to be fact, what would you think about Steve Spurrier taking his place?
First of all, I don’t think it makes any sense at all to speculate on coaches or anybody else who aren’t leaving and we don’t want to leave. But what I would say, if there were a coaching position in college football available anywhere I would be delighted to recommend Steve Spurrier for that position. Steve is a first-rate coach. He has demonstrated in many places that he can produce a winning program. Who wouldn’t want a coach like that?

pjtiger and a few others - your posts seem to make the most logical sense. please keep us posted.

Of all of the crap that I've read and heard in the past couple of weeks, this is quite possibly the best news that I could hear. And looking at his resume, there's certainly no reason to doubt your assertions.

Scoop, I can't go into any more detail or I will be "treading on thin ice", but go ahead if you feel comfortable?

PJ-
Question...
Is it a two horse race (Saban or Spurrier)...
OR,three (Jack Del Rio)?
OR, is the field still wide open?

I have said all I know. I think it will be Saban unless blocked by a particular person at LSU. I think there are some people in Baton rouge trying to convince someone to change their mind.

From what I have heard, it was somewhat "caustic" at the outset because of Dr. Lombardi's "run over you" style. You can imagaine that one with CW. But, a certain abosulute die-hard "purple and gold" obsterician who we all know and love has done a good job of helping "normalize" the relationship from what I have alos heard!

Pjtiger, you sound like a sane and rational person who uses his brain. And you may possibly be a football guy. I can see me and you getting along real well on here.
