re: What would a realistic candidate list look like for LSU fans?

speaking of offensive systems and philosophies, alot of what Bama and Arkansas run is what I think Miles wants to run. However, from an execution standpoint, it's a night and day difference with how these teams execute and how LSU does.

Whittingham would do really well at LSU with the right staff I think
Got Whittingham confused with Willingham and the butthole puckered a little

I feel the same way with the current A&M offense and how we want to run a spread option but don't have the personnel/execution to do it
With the skill position talent LSU pulls in and Louisiana produces I feel like yall would kill it running Herman/Meyer's offense. Not saying Herman should be the guy but an offense like that would really exploit the depth advantage like it did at UF and OSU
And Whittingham's offense is pretty much the same from what I know so he would be very interesting

I'd make the first call to Chip Kelly's agent and see how he is liking the NFL...

You're looking at a Fuente, Herman caliber of hire. We're not going out and stealing Fisher, Dantonio, or even Franklin.

We could steal Fisher. Don't have a reason to steal Franklin.
Dantonio would be an awesome fit at LSU but is too old (about Miles' age).

Its become apparent to me that our fans don't know what realistic candidates mean. Its like they didn't see teams like Florida, Tennessee, and USC get turned down by the same big name hires that they think we could make.
I have no idea who would be realistic, but I'm also not too worried about it because I don't see any way Miles still isn't at LSU next season.

Did it? I had no idea.
I've always liked Tomlin. Any college that could get a coach/leader/man of his caliber would be stupid not to pony up the $$$ (probably north of $7,000,000 / season) to get him.

I pointed out that I'm not saying Gruden is realistic: I'm curious if LSU could afford a coach for $6.5M.
I've been following LSU for a while. IIRC, a sticking point between Saban and LSU was that his contract said he'd get paid $1 more than the highest paid coach if he won a NC, but after he won a NC, he did not get to be the highest paid coach in college football.
(I might be wrong about that, though.)

It's all timing, more often than not you do end up with a mid major type coach though no matter how good a job it is. I was more just curious who LSU fans wanted and what they were looking for since I hadn't really seen a wish list yet
And I agree I don't see Miles getting fired unless yall lose out in embarrassing fashion. And you aren't losing to us

I really do not understand the fascination with Herman. He hasn't really proved anything. He wasn OC last year and a QB coach, a good one at that but he has inherited a pretty stable Houston program with lots of talent.
Fuente on the other hand has turned the WORST D1 program around in 3 years. What he has done at Memphis is unbelievable. That's a school that has zero facilities, terrible stadium and no money whatsoever unless Fred Smith decides he wants to spend. Not to mention he constantly recruits against big boys that Come into Memphis and take the top talent. He finds and develops talent.
Y'all want Fuente not Herman. Herman reminds me of Stan Heath. One year of experience and one good year with a team already set up for him.

What about Sean Payton?

Putting aside the statistical improbability of such a thing happening, would Payton's offense even translate to the college game?
Payton's offense is complicated, even by NFL standards, and relies on a very heady QB (Brees) to function properly.
In short: even a simplified version of Payton's offense would be unlikely to succeed in college, unless Payton can recruit an Andrew Luck type prospect every other year and keep churning those QB's out.

Fuente would be my pick of realistic choices.

Fedora, Rich Rod, Leach.

The correct answer, with the majority of the insufferable fricking section of the fan base...
Nick Saban.

I do not know if he's ready for the big time yet but I like Matt Rhule. Seems like he really has a clear vision of what he wants and he achieves it.

I agree. Add the Stanford offense to this list as well. They're a power running team, use the tight ends very well and have lots of wrinkles
