Not sure how this works with our personnel. Not saying it doesn’t, but any 4-3 coach is gonna have to be a little flexible, especially the 1st season or 2.

I think this appeals to Orgeron. I know he loved Aranda and knows he wouldn’t have won the NC this year if he hadn’t convinced Dave to stay, but I think Ed got a little frustrated with the lack of aggressiveness we had on D recently. Especially with the DL.

Besides how simply crucial negative plays are in games, I think lack of counting stats has made it harder for him to recruit on the DL. As effective as they can still be without a bunch of sacks and TFLs, dudes on the DL want to be let loose to go kill people. I think the lack of that in Dave’s scheme frustrated Ed at times, so I could definitely see him going after someone with a philosophy more similar to his. He will never have more leverage/capital to hire whoever he wants than now.

However, there is a little revisionist history regarding Pelini. Or at least people have forgotten. They were wrong, but people on here hated Pelini that last year he was here. Very few were sad to see him go. 13 years later and with the epic changes in offense in CFB, I don’t think he’s quite the homerun some folks have convinced themselves of. We could definitely do worse, but I don’t think it’s a given there wouldn’t be a significant drop off with Bo from Dave. But Wd has certainly earned the right to evaluate that and make that call. I’ll support whomever he chooses.

No is a great coach and fantastic guy. A true players coach. If you ask the guys that played for him, they loved him(Ricky Jean and Suh for example). Plays 4-3, with the front 4 super aggressive. Lots of exotic blitz’s, with safety, corner and zone blitz schemes mixed with regular LB blitz’s. Have to match him with the right DB coaches to make sure you don’t have coverage breakdowns. His 05 and 06 defenses were nasty. 07 had some issues with the wild cat and spread, but those were two new offenses and the minority in the SEC and NCAA in 2007. He and O would have them in the top 5 every year.

Pelini is a great defensive mind and fans saw that both here and at Nebraska. Issues with him were more as a head coach and getting them a good offense. When he focuses on Defense, he is one of the best in the business. He lets his DL loose and that helps when he has talent.

Those glowing for Richard are going to be in for a rude awakening given he runs a cover 3 that heavily relies on a great pass rush, which LSU hasn’t shown with their current DL the last 3 seasons.

'05 they also had to have a players vs Pelini meeting with him to ask him to quit playing 20 yards off WRs even if Rick Clausen is qb. He's only aggressive if you're football ignorant.

Good enough to lose two games to Arkansas and Kentucky, making Andre Woodson and Peyton Hillis look like Aaron Rodgers and Julian Edelman respectively.

Lost UK because Flynn couldn’t hit wide open Lafell

Lost Arky because Doucet lined up wrong for Hesters TD bomb reception from Flynn

Maximus = selective memory.

You’re bringing up football stats from a completely different era of offense at the college level.

I have no idea whether Pelini would be a good hire now but 52 in scoring defense at the FCS level isn’t promising.
