What traits/qualities do you want in a HC??

I sure hope whoever is in the search for our head coach puts a list of candidates who fit what is needed to win in the SEC;
- great recruiter
- strong on defense, esp in stopping the run
- balanced offense but knows that running the ball wins championships (regardless of how they run; spread, power, etc)
- knows you have to win the trenches in the SEC
- willingness to adapt and change as the need arises
- organized and disciplined (the lack of both leads to losses when facing equal talent)
I am sure there are other items that need to be on the list. I interview and hire/don't hire people all the time, it is always about qualities in a candidate not the name of the candidate.

You pretty much listed them all. I would like for the HC to be a transformational leader as well.

Lmao, so you think Miles was organized, had a balanced offense, and adapted?? Sorry but him not adapting his offense is one of a few reasons he was fired. His lack of organization is what led to clock management issues and player confusion.
But yes, Miles did have a lot of what makes a great coach. Hell, he won a lot because of that.

Some of these are obvious traits you want.
But really, my biggest concern after seeing the UT mess with Strong and the first 5 years under Miles, is that we have a united front that is behind a new coach. I don't want any rogue boosters disliking him from the start.
It's very important Alleva finds a guy that everyone can get behind.

You are right but when you see the names being put out there, it's pretty obvious people are just looking at win/losses and not actually why, how, and where they are winning. Example is Larry Fedora. Based on some of his comments in interviews, it appears defense is not very important too him. That type of coaching usually doesn't work consistently against SEC teams.

That would be nice, but beyond Herman and of course Gruden (joke) I am not sure our fans will be united behind anyone unfortunately..... but I do understand what your saying. Hate to see a guy torpedoed in his first year.

I'm not saying O is our guy, but he sure fits a lot of those traits. I know everyone points to the Ole Miss gig, but to say a guy can't evolve as a HC is ridiculous.
He's a known great recruiter. Does anyone on any current coaching list know the SEC recruiting landscape more the O?
As a DL coach he coached Russell Maryland, Cortez Kennedy and Warren Sapp.
He's learned under Jimmy Johnson, Pete Carroll and Lane Kiffen.
He's shown adaptability by adopting Carroll's practice style (he credits Carroll for his change from Miles' style practices). He incorporates some of Jimmy Johnson's psychological practices with getting his players mentally up for games. JJ was a psych major.
Every single complaint from the fan base was addressed day one by O:

Clock management
Adapting game plan and exploiting opponents' tendencies
4th QTR fades
My advice is explore all options and let the season play out. I think we give O a legitimate shot as he was promised. He may prove to be that "up and coming" coach. He also bleeds purple and gold and wouldn't jump ship as soon as he gets a little success.
