What kind of offense should we expect with Kelly?

My uncle who is a die hard Irish fan pretty much told me to expect a sophisticated three yards and a cloud of frustration. I put about as much stock in that as Pirate King opinion.
I haven't followed Kelly closely. Doesn't seem like a whole lot of movement the first week for assistants. Considering he is starting from scratch I understand...
I had to LOL at the 10 year contract. God bless him but how many LSU coaches seen the end of 10 years? Two?

If Les Miles can do it he can.

It’s a valid question but you will ultimately see with the OC hire. He’s done both in terms of spread and pro - style. I believe either way he will give autonomy. You have to to get the best these days.

No one really knows but I wouldn't be surprised to see a power spread type offense. We've got the recievers to win 1v1 matchups and widen the defense out. Boutte, Bech, Jenkins, Nabers should all cause match up issues next year.

At ND it was an average from year to year of about 410-430 ypg total offense. They threw it about 30x per game on average. Rushed it around 40x per game on average.
Just this year they threw it for a little over 260 ypg (25/9 TD/INT) and rushed for a little over 150 ypg. 53/47 run/pass ratio. It certainly wasn’t high octane. TE was their leading receiver by far. They threw it to their lead back 40+ times. Closest SEC offense probably GA style wise.
Will he adapt at LSU? Will he give someone autonomy? I have my opinions, but am willing to wait and see.

You will see Brian Kelly's offense that has won over 250 games throughout his career.
Why would you hire a coach and then expect him to not coach? Especially when he's always been successful.

His offenses have trended conservative in recent years at ND. However, he’s never had an overwhelming QB there (Book was the best by his last season) and definitely never had the WRs he can get here.
Personally, I think he’s going to open things up more at LSU. If he doesn’t, we won’t be pulling QBs like Howard or WRs like we got last class. He’s been adaptable to the talent available to him at each stop and LA is the place to stockpile top WRs, so I’m betting he tailors his offense here to that.

Hopefully,……one that fits the personnel groups. That is really the key. It’s why Sean Paytons (not Joe Bradys) offense worked well in 2019. 5 man protection with 4-5 receivers works when you have an accurate passer who gets rid of the ball quickly and understands where his players will be (like Drew Brees) (and Joe Burrow relatively speaking). You also have to have receivers that make all the catches. The O-line doesn’t have to be hall of famers but HAVE to work as a unit. Don’t forget JB got sacked plenty in 2019 but he also evaded the rush extremely well.

It’ll be adapted to the personnel available at LSU.
He ran an uptempo, 4-wide vertical offense in Cincy.

A lot of people don't understand why Kelly didn't run a wide open scheme at Notre Dame. The fact is that he had a lot of great offensive linemen, but not a lot of great skill players. His best skill players were rbs and tight ends. So he used those a lot more. At Cincinatti when his skill players were about even to his offensive linemen, he ran a more open system that worked. In short, I trust Coach Kelly with the offense because he has shown the ability to adapt. I think when he sees the caliber of player we have at wr, he'll get the ball to them as much as possible in space, creating a more open offense than he ran at Notre Dame.

I think it was a combination of pride, content, dumb luck and lack of vision that made those 10 years possible.

CUM and malzahn ran power spread. now, where is our cam newton? Cardale jones? JT barett? Braxton MIller? Tim Tebow?
in that offense Qb's run lots of power reads and QB powers.

I know that he likes to use two tight end sets. But he’s also known to keep up with developments in changing offensive times. So, he’ll probably be multiple and scheme around personnel and the types of defenses he will face in the SEC.
At least, that’s what I hope and believe, based off what I’ve heard from others who have kept up with CBK’s career at ND.

That's encouraging to hear. Hopefully he improves the lines and running game as well. Sounds like he will not be short on pieces to play with.

Hopefully one that matches the skills of the players LSU has and future recruits. And not predictable in any way. And a fricking run game.

Not that it matters but Les Miles is the only coach to be at LSU longer than 5 years since Charles McClendon.
Brian Kelly is a good enough coach to be at LSU for the duration of his contract. At minimum I see him going 10-2 and in contention for New Years six bowls every year. His contract is structured in such a way that you won’t pay the buyout until the back half of the contract if he consistently has you going 10-2.

Joe Moorehead. Not Sean Payton. That was not Sean Payton’s offense

It was a good mix of both. It’s a little more complex than this but it was basically Joe Moorehead’s RPO scheme out of Sean Payton’s formations.
