Very little risk staying for next year.

He has like 9 returning SR starters from last season

That's absurd.

Agreed that he is likely to only equal last year's run at best, but he has a very short list of jobs he wants

Looks like his DC is interviewing for jobs now.

After only one season as a college DC. I'm happy for him getting the opportunity to be considered for P5 DC jobs, but dang, REALLY want this team and staff to stay together for one more non-COVID season.

There’s a difference between being a shite show and being a flaming dog shite in a brown paper bag show with Level 1 and level 2 recruiting allegations.

Either the violations are real and Tennessee is fricked for the near future more than they already were

Or they aren’t real and the university drummed up some bullshite to get out of paying a buyout for Pruitt

Either way it’s a job that anyone as an upcomer would want no part of

ETA and I guess I should mention that there are really good jobs that don’t reside in the SEC

"Maybe A&M"

OK, that's just wrong. I hate those guys, but that's an elite job.

I personally think Tennessee is a better job than Auburn. I would not want to be in the same state as Alabama, and also the East is much easier.

Also, the recruiting aspect is way overblown. Over the past 8 years, Tennessee has averaged the No. 12 recruiting class. Clemson has averaged No. 10.

Sure there are challenges, but they can be overcome by the right coach.

5 coaches in 12 years. Good luck getting any time to show that you are the right coach with the recruiting violations tying one hand behind your back.

Yea, 5 coaches in 12 years, while Clemson has had 1. Yet they have recruited about the same.

That's more of an endorsement, than a negative.

That tells me they can get talent, they just haven't had the right guy to coach them and build a program.

It’ll depend on what and how severe any of the violations.

If they could get a decent AD in there, they should go after Jamey Chadwell from Coastal Carolina. He’s a good coach, he’s young and he’s originally from Knoxville.

Napier wants no part of that.

He'll be at ULL a while then. Also I heard he really wants FSU.

Dabo went 4-3 (interim), 9-5, and 6-7 his first 3 seasons in Clemson

He would’ve been fired by UT right there.

But again even if the allegations aren’t that serious, that just means the program would’ve rather taken a hit on the recruiting trail than to pay a buyout for Pruitt

If you’re a young coach looking for his first big job, you want no part of a job that has an extremely quick trigger finger on firing coaches and a history of trying to screw you out of a buyout if it doesn’t work out.

That'll have to end up being the toughest act to follow. Like being John Bengtson after Vince Lombardi left Green Bay.

You could finish 12-1 or 11-2, but if you didn't get to the CFP Championship game, you've failed.

Napier apparently was ready to sign with Auburn, but backed out in the 11th hour because of the fracture between the Auburn Admins and the boosters.

I doubt he’s going to sign on with a program that just conducted an internal investigation solely to find cause to fire its coach, publicly admitted to multiple level 1 and 2 NCAA infractions, and hasn’t been regionally relevant since 2007.

They're going to have a hard time getting a top coach for a while. Hugh might do it next year but just because he's a Vol man. If he says no, they're going to be SOL.

No-win situation.

If he turned down Auburn and SCar I’m not sure he would take Tennessee either although I think it would be a better job than the other two. 2 jobs he would clearly take would be Florida if Mullen were to leave and LSU if O were to get fired. He was born in Tennessee though so that job might interest him. He knows he’s in a good spot at ULL and can bide his time to pick the job he really wants.
