CHS with Travis Minor. They got their asses handed to them in the playoffs by West Monroe despite Minor returning the opening kickoff for a td.

WM housed Shaw in the 98-99 state championship. Bradie James ate up Shaw's TE all night.

No that was '98. Marcus Turner killed them that night

That was in '97. WM beat Ruston in the 98 state championship.

The better team lost that game, but didn't it come down to the last play?

Kinda. We won 21-14 with Minor scoring on the opening kickoff and a 67 yard run on a Toss. Other than that, Catholic had maybe 100 yards. We picked off a pass and took knees to end it.

As far as the better team...ehhhh...you had 2 high profile recruits in Major/Minor. We had Tommy Banks-LSU, McConathy-Gatorade player of the year the next year-LSU/Texas/Tech, Reed-LSU, Smalling-LSU, Lenard-4 year starter at Tech, West-A&M/LSU, Ledoux-A&M/LSU.

But yes, Catholic was ranked #10 in the nation and a heavy favorite.

I was there - I went to see Bradie (My Freshmen Year at LSU). I was from Monroe and figured why not.

Bradie didn't matter where the play went he was there.

Sure that's right, but for some reason, I thought he was a Broadmoor grad

You have a great memory. I was there and all I remember is racists, rebel flags, Minor's kick return, Tommy Banks' 3 yard runs, WM winning, racists and rebel flags.

That Catholic team had a few more players than Minor and Applewhite. They had something like 12 guys sign with P5 schools. Problem was 4 or 5 were RBs and 2 were QBs.

Catholic had on that team:

Minor- FSU
Applewhite- Texas
Greg brown- Texas
Shanklin- Kentucky
Boone- Clemson

And several others that went D1 that I can't remember.

Sick talent! Really haven't seen talent like this on 1 team at the skilled positions since.

Uhm. . . The top 4 running backs on that CHS team ended up playing D-1 ball. Minor (FSU), Boone (Clemson), Shanklin (UK) and Hatch (Georgia Tech). Greg Brown played safety at Texas with Major. One of the TE's played for LSU for a bit. Former LSU punter Donnie Jones was on that team.

And oh by the way, it was 21-14 with a minor TD on a trick play being called back.

Travis Minor had around 200 yards rushing in that game. So Catholic had way more than 100 yards. I am not a Catholic fan but they win that game if they run the ball more. For some reason they kept calling pass plays when Minor could do whatever he wanted.
