What has Coach O done to deserve a job like LSU?

I see some LSU fans would be okay with him as the next HC. What has he done to deserve that job? He was 10-25 at OM. Or is it you would be okay with him if you strike out on your top 3-5 coaches?

I think most are saying they'd be okay with O if we don't get the top guys and O does really well as interim.

if he runs the table and wins and sec title i'd say he earned it. that is the only scenario i see him getting the job.

Nothing yet. If he wins out he deserves the job

He did well at his interim gig at USC. If he does well at LSU, keeps Aranda at DC, and brings in a top notch OC (like Kiffin), I think we'd be just fine. He's from Larose and can recruit like none other. I'd fully expect him to lock in damn near all of our in-state top players.
That, on top with a top DC and top OC, we'd be in real good hands. Coach O's job would be to just run a smooth ship and let the coaches (Aranda and OC/Kiffin) do their thing and coach.

Wins out? Like a natty? Well, then that would be deserving

I keep seeing his name mentioned. Do LSU fans think he'd jump ship? I mean he's shown to have little loyalty anywhere but do you guys think he'd leave. You can offer him more money but I would imagine Bama would just counter.

He and O are long time friends apparently

Absolutely nothing.
But some USCw fans wanted him to be named permanent head coach so go figure.

I think people believe in merit more than anything else. We all understand that. You do a great job you get rewarded, you do a lousy job you get fired. So people are willing to give a native son with love for LSU the benefit of the doubt until the results prove otherwise. IF Coach O lights a fire and taps into something that LSU fans can see and feel most would be willing to throw his name into the hat.Especially if he does in fact "flip the script" and make our season ticket investments fun and worthwhile again.

O and Kiff have coached at many stops together and have followed each other around. Does that mean he comes? He may have 1 foot out the door already and that's why Saban brought in Sark for a smooth transition.
I'd take either Briles as OC as well.
ETA: If O does well, I'd happily accept him if we retain most of the staff and get Kiffin or Briles or someone of that caliber. This is O's dream job and I think he will work his arse off. Just have to see how that translates.

I agree. A common theme I've seen over the years is that LSU needs someone who has ties to LSU and loves the place; Les got there after years but some think it would be best to have someone here who sees this as a dream job and not a stepping stone.
O had a good run at USC and if he continues that here for the rest of the season he could be a logical hire, with several assumptions:
- IF he can keep Aranda (assuming the D lives up to expectations)
- IF he can bring in a dynamic new Offensive Coordinator (Les' unwillingness to do this was his downfall).
So let's say Fisher and Herman are off-the-table and Ogeron goes 6-2. Which is a riskier future:
- Coach O with a 6-2 record in 2016 (on top of the 6-2 record while interim at USC) with the current defensive staff largely intact and a new OC, or
- Larry Fedora/Kingsbury/other 2nd Tier coach and an entirely new coaching staff?
O will help keep Louisiana recruits in LA and recruit others to LSU; that skill is not to be undervalued.

If he does this, they'll make him Governor of Louisiana. Heck, if LSU beats Bama this year, they'll do that.

Kiffin just got a (well-deserved) raise. I believe they upped him from $700,000 to $1.4M. LSU can offer that (maybe more). Kiffin has been with Orgeron at USC and Tennessee. I believe they are pretty close. I think O would offer Kiffin a lot more flexibility and freedom with the offense than Saban does. Who knows? Maybe he'd want the gig?

He was really crushed when he didn't get the USC job. He left coaching for a couple of years. He wants the job, and I think there's a good chance he'll go 6-2, just like at USC. He'll think he earned it, but he's not getting the job.
I don't know how he will react, but he's not staying on staff. Kiffen may get a job. Would O follow him? He left the Saints after a year when LK was hired at UTk, then left with him to USC. I would like to see him get another HC job.
Would somewhere like Baylor be a good spot? The BigXII is bad this year. Baylor might win the conference, but if they start losing games, O might be very attractive to come in & stabilize that program.

I think he's a different guy than when he was at OM. It would be a risky pick but if the tier 1 guys all bail, I think it'd be a risk worth taking (if the team manages to really blow the doors off the rest of the season)
