If Lincoln says no, I’d much rather have Aranda than Jimbo.

TBL, not that my opinion matters at all but I also hope we get Dave back here. He is the future. Lincoln’s best days may be behind him. Jimbo’s definitely are. Thanks for your info.

Riley’s best days behind him? He’s younger than most people on this board lol. I love Aranda but to say Riley’s over the hill is insane.

Do you think you need a rah rah to be a good recruiter?

Saban sells his process and the coaching a player will receive.

I think that's a bit premature at 38

I don’t disagree wit anything you are saying

However. Saban BECAME a great recruiter cause he was a great coach and had success. And he had R Gill and some great assts. Aranda will be the closer. The one that builds confidence with families. He will be fine as a recruiter. SUCCESS recruits

Is Riley still our guy? I’d imagine yesterday would make his decision easier, no?

It also makes our $12.5M offer seems more risky and bit drunken sailoresque.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Dave would be the guy who explains to the kids where he sees them on the team, what he can help them achieve while at LSU, etc and then another rah rah recruiter will get them hyped to wear P&G.

I am no longer in close connection with the football program as most of my family has passed on. I do still know a lot of guys aligned with it but I would not feel comfortable asking about the situation. However, my personal feeling has been that none of the top flight coaches mentioned were leaving where they are to come here. We shall see in the not too distant future.

I don’t think you need to be rah rah to be a good recruiter. I think you need to be a good recruiter to be a good recruiter. Whatever it takes.

And I’m not saying Dave can’t be. But I don’t think “we can just hire recruiters” is a legit solution if the head coach actually can’t or won’t.

The high risk with Aranda is recruiting. In the SEC, you better love recruiting.

The coach with the best players usually wins!

The only knock on Aranda while at LSU was that he didn’t love recruiting. As a HC, he would obviously have to be an ace recruiter. He’s elite at all other aspects of the job.

Saban

Saban was and is obsessed with recruiting.

He loves being able to cherry pick the best players.

In the NFL, Saban was considered average at best. In college ball, he is a legend now. Why? Recruiting top 3 classes annually.

This is a false rumor and taken out of context. The comment from him was that of all the aspects of coaching recruiting was one of the more challenging things to do.

If you have ever met Saban …. He is more Aranda than Jimbo or Riley or Great Recruiter . He was socially awkward when he came to LSU . He had a tremendous eye for talent. Knew who he wanted and others went out and got them. What he could do was tell recruits what it took to get to the League and that he could get them there. Because he could talk football and his program. Rah rah is rah rah. And there is a place for that. But a system of recruiting with meaningful strategy to it will win. I am confident any one on our list will actually recruit better, for that very reason , than O has recruited. Aranda and his staff will absolutely kill it in recruiting. So will any other coach on our list.

The way the D is playing now I'd be fine with keeping the D staff largely intact, hiring Aranda and then searching for a top notch OC.

Funny how they went back to a 3-4 and got to success. O wanted a 4-3 ran off Aranda and we got the shaft.

100%. Being a good coach who develops players is the best recruiting tool there is. The rah rah's end up unemployed with large payouts from LSU.

Having been around Jimbo a couple of times over here during the times under Saban, he didn't strike me has having much charisma...just my observation.
