This is actually a great idea.
Hire Pete on a 3 yr contract. Keep Grubb as coach in waiting, promising him the job after Pete's contract is up.
Build a lot of excitement around the hire, keep continuity from what was successful previously, set yourself up for the future.

It's tough to recruit at 72 and promise players you'll be around the next year. That is one of the reasons Saban left. He couldn't keep promising kids he'd be there.

The game’s changed quite a bit since he left ~15 years ago. It’s far more grueling and he’s not swimming in talent advantages anymore like at USC. His first season back would require him to work the hardest he ever has (and UW is not exactly a stocked cupboard). He’s not that stupid

How does he even sell in recruiting (particularly with UW’s mediocre NIL, which he has no experience with) given everyone knows it’s a serious question as to if he’d see a single senior class graduate? Recruits and their handlers aren’t stupid

Assume they’ll promote grubb. Seattle radio dude was saying he may leave with DeBoer, bama oc is a spring board to better jobs.

With the portal, do kids really care anymore? Odds they won’t be there next year either.

It's actually a really good idea. And he's just weird enough to maybe do it.

I think Carroll came out today and said don't hold your breath on him coaching again.

Pete has proven he can cheat with the best, so sure, hire him and cheat away.

I don’t hate this idea! The question is would Pete want to go back to the grind of College again?

How weird is it that Seattle people are glad Pete Carroll is gone and also hoping they hire Pete Carroll?

Neither were successful in their returns. UW should not use them as a model of success.

Pete only ever coached college football out of necessity. He’s not coaching college again at 72 with a Super Bowl ring

Promote Grubb or Ask if Kellen Moore is interested in coaching college. Or if you strike out on all 3 there is always Bryan Harsin.

Robinson’s rose bowl winning team in 1995 was pretty good.

With the portal and NIL, most of the recruits only need to be promised one year.
