Stupid by him. Leave while you can
UTSA is a commuter school that plays a shithole dome and average 20k a game

It'll keep away some schools for a bit but worst case scenario he secured his life changing pay day.

He can leave next year if he wants.
Not stupid at all. He is from texas.

They should but i feel like he can do better.
I don't believe they are a full rebuild.

Dad coached against him at gilmer, said he’s one of the best he’s ever met. And he’s met a few in 47 years…

Waiting for sarkisian to get fired in 4 years?

Maybe he loves his job and really enjoys living in San Antonio. Worst thing that can happen is that he makes $28 million. He can always wait four or five years and leave for a bigger job if that is what he wants.

Stupid decision by him but great news for UTSA.
Not necessarily.
Winning at a G5 school is different than at a P5 school. The recruiting angle is far different (look for players that are overlooked, or from smaller HS that don't get offers, and use the transfer portal for players that didn't work out at P5 but at G5 could develop). Plus he knows the TX HS coaches well (being a 3-time state champion coach at Gilmer TX).
We've criticized Scott Frost for leaving UCF for Nebraska as it hasn't worked out. Why not complement Traylor for knowing what works and sticking with it?

Here are a few more notes from some direct sources to pass along on Jeff Traylor’s contract extension:
- None of previously reported or rumored figures about offers/counters with Texas Tech and UTSA were accurate
- Traylor was offered a 6 year 30 million contract from Texas Tech which he turned down
- Traylor did not interview with Texas Tech’s entire search committee
- By Thursday afternoon, Traylor and UTSA had reached an agreement
- The announcement on the UTSA extension agreement was held until Sunday because they wanted the players to learn of the news first hand. Since the team was on an idle week, the earliest that could occur was Sunday afternoon.
- The 10-year $28 million contract is believed to be the biggest ever in G5.
- The biggest selling point for Traylor was not his salary but the increase to the assistant salary pool, adding of staff, and other commitments to program needs.
- Traylor genuinely loves San Antonio and wants to stay in the long term. The buyout/termination clause is more than fair for both sides and reflects that.
Some quotes from Jeff Traylor’s Monday media availability:
- “I felt a sense of loyalty
- “I’ve always wanted this one (the UTSA job). I stayed in high school to raise my kids. This is the job I wanted.”
- “Y’all didn’t hire me the first time. I wasn’t ready.”
- “I’m grateful. I hope this shows how appreciative I was.”
- “You can never stop people from talking. That’s going to always happen. My name is always going to come up.”
- “I believe a 10-year contract with such a large buy out will simmer down some of the talk.”
- “Both sides are extremely committed to the future.”
- “We have a long ways to go, but we’re heading in the right direction.”
- Traylor on his wife Cari: “She does not want to leave San Antonio”
- Traylor on UTSA contract negotiations: “It didn’t get leaked.
- Traylor on Texas Tech: “This is totally about our players. We were tired of hearing all that. That’s why we made this move.”
- Traylor on the announcement to his players: “It was one of those moments I’ll always remember.”
