That’s normal. It’s the “we didn’t want him anyway” mechanism,

Lol no it's not

Pitt fans were mad when we got Canada
va tech fans were mad when we got grimes
Tenn were pretty happy when we took Chavis

Most fans care more about their own program rather than trying to deceive some random posters on the internet

He's a very meh hire to me.

I'm convinced most people on this board had no idea who he was. But his name wasn't Ensminger so everybody started jumping for joy

I'd rather Yurcich or Combie.

I said in a previous thread that my co-worker is a USF alum and his big gripe about Gilbert was he didn't utilize Flowers well at all. Square peg, round hole.

ETA And I remember looking at stats on some of those high scoring games, and the offensive yardage wasn't too impressive, and lots of defensive TDs.

The dude had the number 7 offense in college football and they want him gone. I don't understand that.

Well if you thought LSU had the only fan base full of dummies you would be wrong.

They scored 2 defensive touchdowns all year. Look, if you don't like the guy that's fine, but don't make stuff up. They averaged 513 yards per game.

Yeah, I'm cooling on Gilbert. Give me Yurcich or Cumbie before Gilbert. But I'd take Gilbert over Ensminger any day of the week!

Is this how we evaluate coordinators now?

Is that why all of our NFL caliber players continue to get coaches fired?

If you asked 80% of people on this board last week who he was they would have zero idea. It’s a very Mob mentality here and they seem to ignore major red flags. But it’s not Ensminger so I guess we could do worse. LSU is stil settling with this hire. There’s reasons why we’re the only school going after him for OC

If the choice is Ensminger or Gilbert then there is no choice

SEC Rant is saying Gilbert to LSU. UT fans are saying he inherited an impossible situation in Austin. He did well in Florida. Doesn't throw much over the middle but their fans indicate that was a personnel issue, not a style of coaching issue.

He could help with Texas recruiting.

Give him a shot. If he blows, give him 1.5 million for two years of doing nothing.
LSU seems to be made of money.

GEAUX GILBERT!

That's not good that an LSU grad went to some of USF's home games and is furious that LSU is considering hiring him. Sounds like this guy is saying that it will just be more of the same, and going by that USF thread a lot of them on there seem to think his power run scheme will fit LSU really good, so I'll reserve my judgement until I've seen the guy in action. The only thing I had to laugh at was one poster talking about LSU's lack of QB talent, and them not having sufficient enough QB play to throw outside the lines. That may have been true with Etling, but these kids coming up have significant arm talent.

There's probably also reasons he's one of the few reciprocating interest. He's had ups and downs in previous stops but I think it's a good fit here. Our strength will be O-line and WR's next year so a veer and shoot could be successful. He also managed a freshman QB very well at Texas. He has red flags and I definitely am not ignoring those, but there's a pretty short list of coordinators who may be interested at all. We shot down two of them on "moral" grounds, and Sark (who took the NFL's best offense and made them average) seems to be heating up down the stretch and may still have a job. There really isn't much left out there. I'm not sure Yurcich was ever actually interested. Same can be said for Cumbie/Chaney. There really haven't been many other names floated out there. Now we may actually be conducting a solid under the radar search, but honestly how likely is that?

With all that said, that really leaves two viable candidates - Gilbert and Ensminger. All you have to do is look at their histories as OC's to know Gilbert is the clear cut winner between the two. Maybe he's not the best out there, but I haven't seen many other names pop up.

Yeah, you obviously went to public school.

How about Yurcich? Much better than Gilbert.
