the firing should have been announced right after the kansas game. i am not sure what they are waiting on. they think they are giving strong a dignified exit but it's actually quite the opposite. i could see a les miles 2015 redux if texas beats tcu and the fans are chanting charlie's name.

The TAF should pull a Soros and pay protestors to chant charlie name and hold a rally calling the texas admin racist for wanting to fire charlie

Agree.

But, if Alleva really already has a yes from Jimbo, I can't argue with it. Personally, I prefer Herman, but a bird in the hand is more important to the program (and his job.) Him moving to secure a great coach over maybe a better one that was not a sure thing makes a lot of sense.

Now, if Jimbo isn't a done deal, Alleva needs to be making a push for Herman right now letting him know that if he says yes, the job is his.

And that's key because Horns247 has learned that McRaven, Fenves and Perrin are running the show as a triumvirate of sorts, and they're doing so in that order of importance.

this is completely in line with everything else about Texas football. endless egos who all want to be in control, and therefore no one is. its why, despite every possible advantage a program could have, they're usually a middle of the road P5 team.

the meltdown should occur if we don't land jimbo and herman goes to baylor or oregon. jimbo is still a homerun.

I really am excited for LSU to end up with either Jimbo or Herman. But you'd think as part of due diligence - especially the need to have multiple back up plans and alternatives to dealing with Sexton that LSU would have serious talks with half a dozen potential hires.

You really should know the level of interest, demands, outlook, and perspective on your own university (and the competition) from the point of view of major candidates.

well based on LSUTigers9458's post the LSU higher ups don't seem to be impressed with herman. they are worried about another sumlin situation.

He hasn't come out and said LSU was not his dream school... so there's that. Proof enough for me IMO. I predict a purple tie sighting very soon.

Whoever LSU's #1 choice is, they need to make the best offer that will be made and give a quick deadline to answer due to other interested candidates (while talking with candidates 2 and 3 and hearing what they would be asking for so they can get their guy quickly if #1 says no). LSU had the advantage of knowing they were going to need a new coach months ago. If they don't use the timing to their advantage, then they shouldn't be in the field they are in. We'll see though...

True, but if you have a yes in hand from your #2, and a "wait until the end of the season so I can find out if Texas is interested" from your #1, you don't wait...you make the deal with your #2. If you don't, then you run the risk of missing out on both.

To me, this all boils down to whether a deal is already in place. If not, you put your focus on Herman right now as your #1 (IMO) while actively working with Jimbo as well.

IMO that isn't really the issue. You don't have to offer him the job to better understand what he wants - because you can give the appearance of having options to your number one candidate. You can also learn more about a name coach who you might be interested in at a later date (if, for example, he went to Baylor he's young enough that he might still be possible to land later).

That would be great. However I want Texas to royally frick this up, get desperate when Herman goes elsewhere, and just give Saban whatever it takes.
