This isn't surprising.

Since 2000, LSU has 16 straight winning seasons, 16 straight bowl bids, 10 bowl wins, 6 SEC West titles, 4 SEC championships, 3 national championship appearances, 2 national championship wins and countless stadium sellouts.

Settle for Fedora, with this kind of potential? I don't think so.

Out of curiosity, if we miss on Jimbo or Herman, who do we go after in your opinion?

There were rumors out of Philadelphia that Chip Kelly sent feelers to LSU last year. There have been rumors out of the Bay Area that Chip Kelly was interested in LSU this year. I've always had Chip Kelly as my #1 target.

Assuming Kelly/Jimbo/Herman are out of the game? You get to second tier coaches, and that's where you'll get a surprise: an NFL coordinator, a coach out of left field like Mike Gundy, Kyle Whittingham, James Franklin, etc.

I think LSU will do better than Fedora, who isn't even a bad coach.

*ETA -- When I say out of left field, I mean waaay outside the walls. Kirk Ferentz / David Shaw type weirdness.

As a Niner fan, Chip Kelly doesn't believe in adjustments. Like at all. He has plan A and that's it. Just saying.

I would love Kelly.

Missing on him too, an NFL coordinator or a fired NFL coach would be absolutely amazing. Whatever happens, I pray it's not ferentz or shaw, they scare me so bad.

As a Raider fan... I love not being the dysfunctional franchise by the Bay.

Kelly was extremely successful at Oregon. I'm pretty sure he had wins against both Carroll and Harbaugh, as well, so it's not like he can't get it done against the best coaches in college football...

Both Ferentz and Shaw would likely be much better, since they're in terrible recruiting spots: Iowa has no in-state players and Stanford's academics are off the charts difficult.

If LSU strikes out on the big two (or three) candidates, you'll see someone out of left field, which is my basic point.

Hell, I'm warming up to neophyte Fleck if he'll give the team a better offense than what we've seen since '08.

Out of left field would be fun if we have to go that route. I would like to see an up and comer. I feel like a PJ Fleck could succeed here given the resources we have. Someone that brings energy and excitement is really needed.

I'm starting to warm up to Fedora after doing some research. It wouldn't be the most exciting hire but it's still a high ceiling hire. He's had some bad seasons but UNC isn't exactly a power house. I like that he didn't just hop onto Tennessee after his first season at UNC despite the money they threw at him. Shows a vision and some loyalty

Him and Aranda would be fun to watch. Not the top of my list but if that is "rock bottom" for us then I think we're in good shape no matter what

So all we heard from Alleva was "we aren't going cheap," we pay Miles's buyout with no hesitation, then fold up like a card table at the first hint of a bidding war?

What the frick is going on?

Chip Kelly - Why he succeeds and doesn't. Very good read. (Cliff's for the tldr crowd: Kelly is a football coach. Now you may go back to the O-T Lounge.)

NFL refs slowing game tempo, lack of change in formations and sets and the competition using his innovations and beating him with them. Sounds to me like he would be much happier in college ball.

Classic blunders: Never get in a land war in Asia, Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line, and never get in a bidding war with Texas and Oregon.

All that being said, I'm pretty sure Herman is going to Texas and Jimbo is coming here. If it's not Jimbo, it's Fedora. Everyone wants a big exciting hire, but even the big exciting candidates aren't that big and exciting this year. I think most will feel like we all did when Miles was hired.

If Jimbo comes here, I will feel a helluva lot more than "what we all did when Miles was hired."

Fedora, not so much.

I think it's a bidding war with Oregon AND Texas that makes it untenable. Both schools have big money backers that at a minimum match LSU's money guys and in reality probably leave them in the dust. a 3 way bidding war escalates very quickly.

They are going to pay Herman $7-10 million. He's too unproven to offer that much
