I know we aren't on the same page about Riley but isn't it nice to be debating the merits of hiring a guy like Riley instead of a guy like O? Glad we have a competent AD for this hire.

he would crush it at LSU. still a huge difference in top 10 and top 5 classes.
i remember one time alabama having a #1 class and the #2 class was really not even closer to them.. it was just because alabama couldn't be ranked higher than #1 at the time. there was still a huge gap in difference.
ou gets a couple of elite defensive players, but they don't get the same type of overall talent/depth as these other top 5 teams. IMO.

I’m 100% certain that we are throwing big money out there. Big. That I know for a fact lol. So that is very refreshing.

I don't disagree with you there. I guess my worry is more related to a Miles type of situation where a guy is so locked in to his system he doesn't let his coordinators do their job and the program suffers. I know Riley isn't Miles but some coaches get locked in to a system and can't seem to fix it because they are ultimately the root of the problem. I hope that's not the case for Riley if we hire him, but if we don't then I hope he never fields a defense the entire time he's in the SEC

Possible, but not because he doesn’t have a lot of respect and admiration for the position . Tucker has stated that it really bothered him to leave the kids at Colorado after one season. I could see him not wanting to do the same at Michigan State after two seasons.

Also another thought on Riley I had regarding this is would he be able to jump in to the top 5 recruiting if he comes to LSU? Based on the talent in Louisiana I think he probably could but I honestly don't know much about how he does in recruiting outside of offensive players.

Woodward knows this is the most important hire in LSU history and it will make or break him as the AD here. Without a doubt Scott is swinging for the fences with a ton of money

Maybe Tate removed himself from the process once his guy was out. Early leaks indicated that Tucker was Tate's guy, accurate or not.

I think your theory and what OP said about Tucker not being interested have about as much truth to them as the initial rumor that Tate was going to force a minority hire.
