Guess the Steelers are content with the results but doesn’t it seem like the Steelers are not even close to a Super Bowl, same results every year

The Steelers lack consistency at the QB position. If you have that, there's probably a 90% chance you make the playoffs. He's been making it without that for a couple of years. You aren't going to win in the playoffs without it.

It’s and chicken & egg situation with Tomlin & Steelers. He’s a great coach and will probably never have them bad enough to truly do a mini re-boot even though they kinda desperately need one.

They are very loyal but this is year 8 without advancing in the playoffs

Cowher went through a stretch like this as well before winning it. Their biggest issue is they just don’t have consistent qb play. He’s also hired some very low ceiling OCs and the Steelers don’t exactly invest a ton of capital in weapons (and the one they did in Najee was pretty meh).
The guy has shown he can drag almost any team he coaches to above .500 though. It’s quite impressive.
I wonder if they could make a big move and trade for someone with a higher ceiling that a franchise is getting frustrated with like a Herbert, Lawrence or maybe go for Darnold or someone like that.

Cowher went through a stretch like this as well before winning it.
From when he started his career in Pittsburgh in 1992 through 1997, Cowher went 64-32 with 6 playoff apperances, 5 division titles, 3 AFCCG appearances, and 1 Super Bowl which was a loss to Dallas. His postseason record was 5-6 during this time.
From 1998-2004, which I assume are the years you are comparing to Tomlin's last 8, they had an overall record of 66-45-1, and made the playoffs 3 out of 7 years. They did win three division titles, went to 3 AFCCG's winning none, and finished 3-3 in the postseason. Of course, they won it all in 05.
The last eight seasons, Tomlin has went 80-48-2, with two division titles, and 5 playoff appearances. They are 0-5 in the playoffs.
So, Cowher did have a downturn for 7 seasons before winning his title, but his playoff success was about the same as his previous 6 "more successful" years. Tomlin's playoff success, or lack thereof, has been atrocious these last eight years. I think the difference is that Cowher won 3 playoff games and actually reached and hosted two AFCCG's. Tomlin hasn't been remotely close during this stretch getting the doors blown off in most playoff games with every loss but one being by double digits.

Pick up a good QB and one deep threat , then this team becomes dominant over night.

I hear Derek Fast Lane Carr is available

The Steelers are in a tough spot. They have an aging roster and not many weapons. They have a good coach that is consistent, but not good enough. You have a superstar on defense and that’s it. Since Big Ben, the QB position is remained a question mark. You have a WR that has talent, but is a head case.
If they move on from Tomlinson, they have to do a complete rebuild and trade Watt. His talent is being wasted while the other teams are getting younger and better.

Does Tomlin make the personnel decisions?

Cowher never had a stretch longer than four years without a conference championship game appearance. In his worst eight season stretch from 1996-2003, he made two conference championship games and won four playoff games. It’s not even close to the current state of the Steelers under Tomlin

I’d take him in a heartbeat

Looking at the roster, 10-7 and the playoffs feels like punching above their weight class to me?

They should have been preparing to replace Ben since his motorcycle crash.

Since hiring Chuck Knoll on January 27th, 1969 (that's less than 1 week from being 56 years, baws), the Steelers have had exactly 3 head football coaches. That is an average 18 2/3 seasons.
Over the same period of time, Buffalo has had 16 different permanent head coaches (and 2 interims). And that is considering that during those 56 seasons, Lou Saban, Chuck Knox, Marv Levy and incumbent Sean McDermott have combined for 29 seasons. So, the average tenure for the other 12 permanent coaches is 2 1/4 years. Even considering the "long tenure" Bills coaches, the average is only 3 1/2 years.
Let that sink in...

I think a better way to contextualize that is the Texans have had 6 head coaches in their history and have only been around since 1999.
Panthers 10 since they were started in 1997
Jags are about to hire their 10th since their inception in 1995
