If he was offered the Georgia job, he's dumb for not taking it. A lot can happen in a year. Agreed. If he's staying at Houston, he's obviously waiting out the Texas job, but he's making a huge gamble that next season is as good as this one.
I agree with this, but also don't mind a young coach taking his time (while making $3 million a year mind you) to be a HC at a smaller pressure job. He could be there 3 years, have 30 or so wins, then pick his next stop. He has a great resume thus far, and can really build on it.
I said in another thread you could never have predicted 5 top 25 type jobs would open in one year (UGA, USC, Mizzou, VT, Miami, LSU basically). Who knows what could happen in 2016

This could work out well for LSU if les tanks next year. Herman will get another year of coaching experience and would be a better sell to fans not familiar with him.

Hope big joe keeps an eye on him and has the back channels open.

He won't tank, but he will keep us all on the edge of our seats with a borderline coronary because he's an old fart who thinks his way works.
Either way we will be average at best.

Georgia fans,
Do you want Tom Herman as the Bulldog head coach? If not, who is your top pick?

He is gone next year if we are average. And this time he will have less good will on his side.

I do, and have been on the Herman train for months.

First of all it is not "obvious" that he is waiting for Texas, he is most likely waiting on what he considers a better opportunity, which may include, but there is no way he is limiting himself for 1 job.
Next, it is not really a gamble for him to stay at UH. The people that hire and fire coaches look at more than the most recent season, so while he may not have them in line for an access bowl, he probably won't go 2-10 next year either. He can afford to wait for a great opening in a year or two.

One can only hope.
I was for sure that 3 game slide with such a pathetic showing was enough. The pain I felt when I saw the ESPN alert saying he was going to be retained as coach was too much.

Agreed in principle to be South Carolina coach
Agreed in principle to be Georgia coach
Agreed in principle to stay at Houston
Agreed in principle to be Georgia coach
Agreed in principle to stay at Houston

That's the 3rd team he's agreed with in principle in 3 weeks....that's really impressive.

Bad move. Needs to go now unless he's waiting for Urbans next health crisis

I like this guy's agent. He knows Les Miles is done after next year. Herman can have another great year at Houston bumping up his value even more and step in once Les is gone for a handsome sum of money.

UH returns Ward and basically all their top receivers next year and have a big time recruiting class coming in by their standards. Not sure what they return on D or the OL but they should be really good again next year

I'm not disagreeing with you, but be careful about judging a coach by one year's record.
Malzahn was a hot commodity and mentioned as a target for NFL jobs after 2013. He's now on the hot seat.
Dan Holgorsen was a hot commodity after winning 10 games and a BCS bowl in year 1, now he's probably on the hottest of seats.
Though not his first year as a HC, there was no hotter candidate after the 2012 season than Kevin Sumlin after year 1 at A&M.
Like I said in a recent post, I have nothing against Herman, but I'd take Justin Fuente at this point because he's proven he can build and sustain a program through recruiting and development.

He hasn't signed anything yet, McGarity is in flight with an open check for him.
He better be damnit!

How many times is this guy going to be reported as agreeing to a position "in principle"?
First it was us.
Then he was staying at UH.
Then it was Georgia.
Now it's staying at UH.
Damn. Either he's a hire whore or the media's completely mindfricked when it comes to Herman....or a healthy mix of both.
