Tom Allen out at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON – IU on Sunday dismissed football coach Tom Allen, after seven seasons in charge in Bloomington, according to a source confirmed to IndyStar.
Allen finishes his Indiana tenure 33-49, and 18-43 in Big Ten play.
After the remarkable highs of 2019 and 2020, Allen finished his final three seasons 9-27, 3-23 in the Big Ten, with no Power Five nonconference wins among them.
Ultimately, despite a contract buyout exceeding $20 million due across the next four years, current athletic director Scott Dolson determined a change of direction necessary. Dolson’s search for a new football coach — Indiana’s third in the past 13 years — will begin immediately.

Indiana cares more about football than Arkansas

So hard to win at Indiana. They should have the resources with big ten tv money to some degree, but they have Purdue, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State. Michigan State, and even Illinois nearby. If they would put money toward football they could be more successful. If Purdue can have greater relative success, they should be better. Indiana may be too small for three big time programs. So tough to recruit there.

Wasn't he a DC of some repute at one point?

OK, this may be a jumping of the shark moment.

Good spot for Sean Lewis so he can get out from under Prime

They should have waited until after 12/1/2023 and that buyout drops. What happens in the next five (5) days to support the stupidity of that decision?

You’re right. Are they trying to hire before the portal opens?
That’s my only thought here.

They should go after Jason Candle at Toledo.

That and the early winter signing period.

Would Indiana pursue Holgerson?

Some news: IU negotiated Allen’s buyout down. It was ~$20.8 million. It’s now $15.5 million to be paid in two equal installments.

Why would he agree to that?

If you have 2 good years in the SEC or Big 10 and your name even gets whispered in a coaching search, you’re getting some kind of raise and extension.
