Probably because that’s closer to his buyout after December 1st. It drops from $20.8M to an unknown amount in a few days, then would have dropped to $8M next year.
The school also agreed to pay it in only 2 installments. His contract might have specified his buyout would be paid in multiple installments over several years.

Likely removed any offset and requirement to look for another job while getting paid out faster. Chryst did the same last year.
