I agree. I'm afraid this might be the death nail for Coach O at LSU. Hope I'm wrong. According to Mascona this morning Mason and Bo Davis are all but done deals.

Mason is a high risk hire I don't care what anyone says. He hasn't proven anything as DC at the next level in NCAA. Stanford is not exactly playing world beaters all the time. He has done dick in the SEC.

If Bo Davis and him are done deals then they need to get Ohio State's LB coach here that way they can seal Davis up too and he's a pretty good coach.

Stanford played Oregon with Chip Kelly in 2012 and 2013. Oregon was ranked #2 and #3 in the country and had a top 5 offense both years. Stanford held Oregon to 14 and 20 points in 2012 and 2013.

Good grief

Mason was killing it at Stanford as DC. He was viewed as a top tier DC at that time. He might not be a great recruiter, but is he any worse in that role than Aranda was? You already have Bo Davis as a huge recruiting upgrade so that isn’t as essential.

If he is the guy, he is a solid choice.

So every DC with a defensive minded HC you all question who's running the D? So when the D is bad the blame always goes to coach you like.

I just don’t see how you fire Pelini and hire a Mason or Muschamp.

Mason doesn't have to be GREAT here, he just has to field a respectable defense. Talent alone will win LSU 9 games doing the season. It's the other 2-3 games that determines LSU fate. (Bama, Fla. Auburn) Can Mason make a difference in THOSE 3 games. Because at the end of the day, It's a 3 game season for LSU.

With that being said, I'm not advocating for Mason, this applies to ANY DC that is hired here. JMO.
