If you want to see how Arkansas fans feel about Gus as our coach, just check out this discussion from our media.
LINK
There was a poll on Hogville that asked if fans would want Gus and less than 15% said they would. The other 85%+ said they emphatically did not.

So if your Arky fans and want Gus to come home, you need to be huge UGA and Bama fans over these next 3 weeks and blow the doors off of Auburn

Arkansas is the ONLY team that would be willing to pay Gus more than he is making now because he damn sure has ZERO leverage at Auburn regardless what happens with UGA and Bama games. Most want him gone and that includes those cutting his checks.

He would probably take less annual money at Arky for a bigger total contract assuming the buyout is structured in the right way.
I do think it’s ironic that some Arky fans turn their nose up at Malzahn. They claim they want to win, but turn their nose up at the most established/realistic/experienced candidate available ... I totally get why Auburn is ready to move on, Auburn and Arkansas are in MUCH different places as a program Overall, but Arkansas is in no place to say “no thanks do not want” to the best candidate available.
If they do hire AppSt coach or similar crap hire like Morris over Malzahn, they’ve sealed their fate for the next decade IMO.
They’ll probably split the difference and go with Kiffin... not a crap hire but also not the biggest fish. The good thing about Kiffin is that even if he loses he’ll get Arkansas back in the press.

You are likely not from here or live here so you don't understand the dynamics of the situation. This is not soley about winning or losing. Gus has and will always have his supporters. They are however far outnumbered by people who hate the guy.
He was sought after two years ago. He blew it by playing those who wanted him for a raise.
As for football. He is what he is. Not succeeding at Auburn and he is supposed to come in and win here? That makes sense how? It doesn't
It's not going to happen. He is not even going to be looked at this time around. Everyone who knows something that is from here says that

I'm surprised by the number of people thinking they'll take Kiffin. After the Petrino fiasco, I don't see them touching someone with that kind of baggage.

Not succeeding at Auburn
Meh...that’s kind of like saying Les Miles wasn’t successful at LSU. Both fanbases certainly had/have their reasons for moving on, but to claim Malzahn hasn’t had success at Auburn is simply not accurate.
The expectations at Auburn and LSU are much different than they are at Arkansas. It just is what it is.
Is Malzahn meeting expectations at Auburn?... probably not. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been a successful SEC head coach. There’s a reason Texas and Florida State, among others, have made serious inquiries in recent years about Malzahn.

I’ll never understand why he would be so eager to leave auburn for frickin Arky
Posted on 11/15/19 at 8:53 am to wildtigercat93
Home state, writing on wall that Auburn tenure clock is ticking, fresh start with lower expectations, new long-term contract, get away from Bama, avoid “fired” ever appearing on resume, etc etc
It really has nothing to do with Arky being a “better” job than Auburn, because it is not.

Ehh getting fired isn’t a big deal for coaches. Especially ones who have been as successful as he has.
I could see him being a back up option for FSU or a job on that level.

Yeah I Haven’t really read much about FSU’s search, but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that Gus is pretty high on the list... would be a good fit.

No it's not. Les miles was at one point red hot at Lsu. Had six 10 win seasons. Gus has pulled together two of those type of seasons seasons.
Les was consistent. Gus has been flash in the pan

Lots of stuff. Some petty some not.
He was a head coach at a high school that was prep school. People felt like they recruited. People hate that from high schools.
People felt like he used is HS players committing to Arkansas as a way to get into the collegiate coaching ranks. The class mitch mustain came in with had several highly touted players from his school.
The infighting that allegedly took place between him and Nutt when he was OC here.
Personally things that people don't disclose

Eh, that is a major reach to act like Gus is the clear best target. There are very concerning issues with his offense, especially if you look at it over the years. If you could guarantee a great staff around him, he might be the best hire but I don't think you can do that. Would he be able to bring his D cord? You also have to factor in that he won't have nearly the same talent. As you said yourself, Auburn and Arkansas are on different levels. He would have a much harder time winning at Arkansas than Auburn.

Gus has powerful church friends, who only want Gus because he's a member of their flock. They nearly pulled a coup 2 years ago and Gus used it to get a raise. Few actual fans want Gus at Arkansas and this is something those outside the state don't understand.

What is interesting from an outsider is how you guys chastise every coach that has dealt with UA. Tubs, Gus, Nutt, Bobby,Jeff Long, etc. At some point, you guys need to bear some of the responsibility. You even do it to kids that leave for better programs. It could be these guys/players don't want to deal with the current mess you guys have at your university.

What do Arkansas fans need to bear responsible for regarding Bobby? And that really isn't true. There are plenty of people that still love Nutt and even a minority that pulls for him to get the job.

Eh, this is pretty much any school that has a large fan base. Especially ones that are the only major school in the state. Maybe you have a different perspective because you share the state with another big program but what you mentioned above isn't unique to Arkansas at all.
