I'm on record numerous times on here saying he will leave if offered the UM job. I still believe it.

Every situation has been different honestly. In 2007, it was in the midst of a conference championship and possible national championship opportunity. Les wasn't going to leave LSU with a chance to wrap up an SEC title. Plain and simple.
The next go round, I think that UM wasn't sure about Les because of how LSU had performed the previous two seasons. despite going 10-2 in 2010 prior to the bowl game with an experienced team and needing significant luck to win in a ton of games, Les was still a question mark. His teams made up mostly or entirely of his recruits hadn't proven anything by that point, and UM's new AD was no fan of Miles and it was known from the beginning.
Go around this time, people saw the 2011 season that LSU produced, and while the ending sucked, LSU still went 13-1 and won a conference title. Add in the huge number of players LSU has been pushing into the draft that Miles recruited and developed with his coaching staff, and he is a much more attractive hire.
On top of that, Brandon is out and the new interim AD Hackett is on good terms with Les.
Timing isn't horrid either as Les has a young team that while very talented is going to need to develop and quickly. LSU fans are growing impatient and the honeymoon has been over for some time (whether fair or not). Going to Michigan now he'd leave LSU in a good position for a new coach and go into a UM program looking for him to rebuild rather than dominate off the bat (following 2006 and 2007 seasons).

Les belongs nowhere but LSU. I will be genuinely sad if he leaves for Michigan. I doubt it happens. LSU is the perfect fit for him.

Re the comment that "the timing isn't horrid, either", LSU is projected to have a top 5 program next yr & CLM has commented on just this several times this past season. This is the class that he's been building & to up & leave just as this class is ready to explode...makes any move at this time horrid. Then, on the flip side of that coin, UM is in a rebuilding mode, at a minimum, 2 yrs away from being able to compete with UM & the Buckeyes. Mich. State is a rock solid program, too. So, both his main rivals are loaded. No way is the timing a good thing.

LSU won't be top 5 next year to start. They are talented, but are possibly losing a ton this year.
They lose two OL for sure and possibly 4.
They lose one starting DE and likely the other.
They likely are out on Rashard Robinson and Collins may go pro. They may also lose Mills and will lose Martin.
LBer could lose Kwon.
So that defense that became so stout isn't guaranteed to have very experienced players at key positions next season.
Add on top of that, we are losing two senior tailbacks, Neighbors and our QB situation is nowhere near promising at this point, and you have what isn't a very promising team to be top 5 next year.
Bama will be likely about the same.
Auburn/A&M/Arky are all likely going to be improved next season on their weak sides of the ball.
That's just in the SEC West.
tOSU will be good again.
The Big 12 and the Pac 12 will have top teams.
It is nowhere near likely as of right now that LSU is a top 5 team. Could it happen? Yes. Is it likely? No.
