Except that doing a search and failing makes them look worse than if they had just hired Ensminger from the start.

Based on the rumors posted here, there may not be any. There is no misdirection, no unregulated leaks either
In reality it's probably going like Orgeron said following the dismissal, an outside search foe a good fit.
