Is because we really need continuity on offense since Orgeron is our HC.

We need a guy that will be here for at least 2 or 3 seasons. Even if Kiffin comes here in 2017 and turn this offense around, he will likely be gone in 2018. Its only so long before somebody gambles and offer him a HC job (Which I think will be this offseason). We need a guy like Aranda, who is a great coordinator but obviously not on anybody's short list to be a Head Coach just yet.

So let's go with someone less successful who will be here longer?

Sarkisian could be just as good and would be here longer since he needs to rehab is rep

Kiffin is not the only successful OC that could come here and turn the offense around.

We used that thought process to hire our HC, why not our coordinators? Date the ugly girl so no one will try to steal her.

Someone successful but not as far along in their career.

Kiffin is at most a year away from being a HC somewhere.

Sadly, yes. We're going to need continuity. Ideally, we get a great guy who won't leave, but if the choice is between great and staying, we have to pick "stays".

Other option is to start searching for the head coach, again

It's been said that Kiffin isn't interested in a small or mid tier HC gig. He wants a Kirby Smart type move. If that's true, you might have him for 2 years or more. I agree with the general assessment though.

Sarkisian was brought to Bama to replace Kiffin. Saban knew that this would probably be Kiffin's last year there. Sark has been getting ready since September and it will be a smooth transition. What Kiffin is looking for as far as a HC job, who knows. But why not get one of the best while he's available?
