it seems that the OC search is involving OCs who are somewhat all over the map in terms of style

look at the varied offensive styles from the OCs that have been rumored to have been inerviewed

spread option (USM)
spread, with option plays (TCU)
2 pro-style guys (UL, UW)

seems like its all over the map. might our OC search be a search for the new offense as well?

based on the lack of a pure playcaller/independent OC, it also makes me think this is a QB coach search more than an OC search. i could be 1,000% wrong on that, but it just seems like les has targeted guys without full OC experience (other than krag)

There ARE alot of different offenses used in college...so naturally youre gonna get a mix. But if definately feels Miles' priority is someone who can be a good QB coach.

I really dont believe Miles has a particular "style" of offense that he needs or wants to have...like a "power I" type offense. If he did...we sure didnt bring in alot of beef up front to run it. I dont believe his offenses at Ok St were power offenses...i seem to remember them flinging the ball around a little. Then again my memory sucks.

It's so easy to fault a coach as we did crowton. maybe it isn't the coaches fault the offense is horrible all the time, i'm just sayin'.

I think the OC we need to get is one that is good with developing QB's, which obviously Crowton couldn't do. And also the predictable play calling, the short pass on 3rd and long, and quarterback option with a QB that wasn't particularly good at running the option were crowtons downfall.

Maybe Miles should just be OC...

when Miles was OC for OSU for 3 years..

quote:

During Miles' three previous seasons at Oklahoma State, the Cowboy offense produced near-record-setting numbers. The 1996 team had 4,295 total yards, an average of 390.5 per game. Those totals were the fourth-best in the history of OSU football. Two of the three years under Miles, the Cowboy offense had more than 4,000 total yards.

quote:

The 1997 Cowboy offense scored 332 points, the third-most in OSU history, and the Cowboys averaged 22.5 points per game in 1995, 22.0 in 1996 and 27.6 in 1997

In three years at LSU, Crowton's offense has set numerous school records despite starting each year with a first-time starter at quarterback. In 2010, Jordan Jefferson becomes the first returning starter at quarterback for the Tigers since Crowton's arrival in 2007.

Nicknamed "The Wizard" by the LSU players, the Tigers have scored at least 30 points in a game 25 times (39 games) and compiled a 29-10 overall mark under Crowton's direction.

The Tigers averaged over 30 points a game in both 2007 and 2008, which included a school-record 38.6 points a contest in 2007. Only four times in school history LSU has scored over 400 points in a season and two of those have came under Crowton's watch - 541 in 2007 and 402 in 2008.

Crowton went into the 2008 season with an offense that had three quarterbacks who had combined to play in one college game. By the end of the season, LSU's offense was among the best in the league as the Tigers, despite starting three different quarterbacks, averaged 30.9 points and 368 yards per game.

Crowton's first year with the Tigers in 2007 resulted in arguably the best offensive production in school history as LSU set 10 offensive school records on their way to claiming the national title. The offensive school records set under Crowton in 2007 include: points in a season (541), points per game (38.6), touchdowns scored (64), rushing TDs (35), passes attempted (442), passes completed (256), total yards (6,152), total plays (1,054) and first downs (316). LSU also scored at least 40 points a school-record seven times in 2007 as the Tigers posted a 12-2 overall mark.

The 2007 LSU offense produced one of the top rushing and passing seasons in school history as Jacob Hester ran for 1,103 yards and 12 scores, while Flynn threw for 2,407 yards and 21 touchdowns. It marked only the sixth time in school history that LSU's offense has featured a 1,000-yard rusher and a 2,000-yard passer in the same season.

What does Crowton have to do with Miles? Unless you're saying that Miles was really the OC and not Crowton. yes..he hired him...and yes, he should have fired him a year earlier...

But Miles was a very good OC when that was his job at OSU.

Not sure why all the emoticons...

Jamarcus Russel was the number 1 pick in the NFL draft and only threw for over 300 yards 1 time, and everyone said it was because of Malveto

I don't understand this.

i didn't either but i let it slide

JR went #1 b/c he was one of the most physically impressive QBs ever, and he had the best season of any QB in college in 2006

i don't know how LSU's DC 2 years later plays into it

I'll put it to you like this. We scored 357 points this year, and Crowton gets canned. Averaging 27.5 points a game and you want Les Miles who's best year as an OC was averaging 27.6 ppg to call the plays? Maybe he does already?

Ok maybe meant fisher, that would make sense.
If u rewatch the cotton we went out of the I form the majority of the time. The second most used formation was 3 wide. And we ran all over them. Both of those sets give u different advantages in the run game. I don't know if miles cares how it gets done but running the ball like we did in that game was what miles wants (I believe).

It was pretty though to see just how much we ran out of the I form, (every now and then a draw was the only variance in that formation) but TT third TD was play action over the top. Loved it.

The way I see it is if Les is going to insist on meddling its better for him to have complete control of the offense.

By no means do I want Les calling plays, but we can't really compare the talent on this LSU team to those OSU teams of the mid 90s.

do they run the spread option?

I don't think it is fair to compare stats from this decade to the 90s or farther back. The numbers will all be down compared to now.
