So, if Herman were to choose UT, one would assume Applewhite wouldn't be welcome to join him, given his past firing and controversy at UT.

Herman and Applewhite are pretty close.

Given this factor, if LSU or USC are offferinf ostensibly the same package as UT but he can take Major with him....

Something to consider.

He's been an assistant for him for a season and a half. I also think he would be a primary candidate to replace Herman assuming he leaves, him or Todd Orlando.

Applewhite has been deposed as a witness in a $1 million discrimination lawsuit by a former UT track coach who was pressured to resign or be fired after she had a relationship with a student. She claims discrimination after Applewhite did the same thing but wasn't fired and ultimately got a promotion and pay raise on the football staff.

To this point, Texas hasn't settled the lawsuit and has appealed all the way to the state Supreme Court to block the lawsuit. Given how far they've taken their appeals, I can't see how it would be in the university's best interest to bring back Applewhite.
