Does anybody honestly believe any of these coaches enjoy recruiting? I mean you spend your whole offseason chasing around 15-17 year old kids. Arguably the most difficult age of people to deal with. Then you have to deal with the drama of recruiting that is started by social media and other coaches.

I just don’t buy into any coaches actually enjoying recruiting. It’s a dirty game especially with NIL involved now.

Being good at it and liking it are two completely different things. House was only the DC at Kentucky for a short period of time. Those players he recruited are the ones who are making their defense what it is now.

I’m sure he will do just fine recruiting at LSU.

NIL is going to change recruiting to some degree.

I agree, the tip recruiters of the future will have the biggest checkbooks.

We will get a ton of “Dream School But” comments. I really can’t blame the kids, you have to make it when you can.

You just gotta have somebody like frank who's all about recruiting on the staff. I'd rather my hc and coordinators be x and o game planners and the lower assistants be the primary recruiters

It is the biggest reason why I could not be a college football coach. Your entire livelihood revolves around kissing the assess of 17-22 year old kids, essentially begging them to come to your school.

That said, I think there are some who really do enjoy the process. I think Orgeron did. I think he liked building the relationships with the kids and the families. I think Saban, to the extent he enjoys anything, likes recruiting. Given his gravitas and the state of the program he has built at Alabama he doesn't have to be the guy out there beating the bushes...but he is...every year.

Is it really the biggest reason though?

I disagree. If someone doesn't like recruiting it is a big issue in CFB. Recruiting is all day everyday all hands on deck at this level. NSR.

However, the question is it true. It's more of a cliché on this board so I ignore it. It seems to get applied, here on this board, to anyone who has, is, or wants to work in the NFL.

This is where the HC as CEO matters. You have to trust/believe your HC is going to vet that and make decisions accordingly. I for one do believe CBK asked the question and if House answered "no, I absolutely hate recruiting and will refuse to do it" that CBK did not shrug his shoulders and say "forget I even asked, you're hired!". No, that just isn't going to happen.

Also the coordinators are not your primary recruiting positions anyway, the position coaches are and of course the RC. Of course the OC DC have to recruit but the melting over not having them names already because of “recruiting” was silly

There are absolutely people who are willing to engage with that age group and enjoy it. Youth pastors, teachers, coaches, mentors ... the elite ones are elite not because of their knowledge but because of their genuine love for the people they are trying to reach.
