Top 3:

Arnett (clear top imo)
Reeves
Lukabu

We have experimented with older DCs who haven't had experience in the role since the 2015 offensive shift/boom. And there is so much risk in hiring an NFL position coach or analyst without recent DC experience at the college level. Needs to be an up and coming college DC who has proven himself at a lesser school. Recruiting is undoubtedly a plus, but great defensive schemes often recruit on their own.

I would put Ash on that list if he’s available.

I like Reaves, but I would move him to Tier 2 because he hasn’t done it at the P5 level yet and he’s not in the AAC or MWC, so it’s mid to low G5 that he’s dealt with. I still like him, but the other 3 have that on him.

The fact that Sark, one of the top OCs in the league, is pursuing Arnett is pretty telling. Must've seen something he liked when they went head-to-head (at least before 5 star v. 3 star talent became an issue).

Hope to god its not a comfortable hire. I agree about Reeves being moved to Tier 2 after looking at it more. What someone said about Clark being the brains behind the operation is somewhat concerning.

I think Reeves is only as successful as his head coach.

In a perfect world:
DeMeco Ryans
Zach Arnet
Tem Lukabu

Maybe in other games but Bama was up 17-0 in like 10 minutes on MSU.

I’m not sure any defense can be fairly evaluated on their performance vs Bama this year.

MSU gave us hell for a half and we ended up with a very good passing offense. We looked a lot better in the two games after we played them. They got pressure on Brennan and had him thinking hard about where the coverage was going. They also held up well when State’s offense struggled for a chunk of the season and put them on the field a ton.

Brennan had wide open receivers and was a deer in the headlights that first game.

Look into State's attrition and internal issues this past year. Further, look at how bad their offense performed throughout the season and how low their TOP was in the majority of their games. Arnett was able to do a lot with a little.

That’s partly because they still managed to confuse him by disguising things and getting pressure on him.

I've been saying his name for a couple months now. He is an "NFL" guy, so his plans are to head back up that way.

A two year pitstop in the SEC could look good on paper.

LSU had 4 defensive All Pros this year. Our track record speaks for itself.

Maybe CEO could get off his dumb arse and handle it for a year. Oh, forgot that he is incompetent to be a DC .....

Tem Lukabu is a great candidate. I mentioned him with this board first opened.

Played LB at Colgate.

He just completed his first year as defensive coordinator. Improved BC from 100+ in total defense to the 60s in one season.

Played LB and coaches LB, but has coached DL and DB. Former LB coach at Mississippi State.

Has coached under Bob Shoop, Jeff Hafley, Jim O’Neil, Robert Saleh, Bill Sheridan and Greg Schiano.

FYI, his first name is pronounced “TEMM,” and his last name is pronounced “LUKE-uh-boo.”

Someone mentioned in another thread that he may follow Robert Saleh back to the NFL if Saleh gets a head coaching job.

I doubt an NFL team would match what we could pay, but it might depend on what his career goals are. Seems to be a good recruiter, but some coaches just don't like to recruit. I don't know what his ambitions are.

If he likes college football, then it would be an easy hire.

It was always going to be a comfortable hire. Ed cant 'coach' and look over his shoulder at the same time.
