According to Texas fans? They could hire Saban and build his office on the Moon, with money left over for a custom, Longhorn-themed Space Shuttle.

The truth is that Texas doesn't make THAT much more from athletics than Alabama (153 mil for Bama, 161 mil for Texas - making them #4 and #2, respectively, in the country). While Texas can certainly pump more money into it than Alabama, all the numbers being floated are within Alabama's reach as well if they so choose to do so. Alabama has a larger profit margin from their Athletic Department than Texas ATM (30 mil vs 7 mil), meaning they don't have to pimp their boosters to make up the difference like Texas would need to.

Also, unless the Board of Reagents at Texas has suddenly decided to grow up (unlikely over 3 years), they will NEVER give Saban the level of control he wants.

If money were the only issue, I'd be way more worried if Oregon ever came shopping - they obliterated Texas in revenue the last time it was reported (topping 191 mil) with a huge surplus to go along with it (85 mil).

Alabama has to pay its players so Texas has that going for them.

The biggest thing stopping Saban from taking some outrageous UT offer is that it is in the Big 12. Saban hates everything about that league and the style of football they play. Imagine Saban having to play a HUNH offense every single week and feeling like he has to score 45 a game just to keep up. It goes against his own constitution. He would have to change everything about the way he coaches all just to do a quick fixer upper and then retire.

My little bro lives in Austin & deals with some UT heavies through work. He said they were telling anyone who would listen Saban was going last time. When it didn't happen, one of them basically said it was all one big smoke screen to make the job look more attractive. He said there was contact with Saban but nothing beyond a "thanks but no thanks" situation. He got the impression nobody really wanted to follow Mack Brown.

Miami has almost no money. People were speculating they wouldn't fire Golden because they didn't want to pay the buyout

Why

Mack is tight with & has business interests with the top tier boosters. Anybody who follows him has to deal with it.

For the challenge, Yes! For his legacy, No! Saban is a practical guy a knows that his legacy is set as the best college football coach of all time. His brief stint and failure in the NFL doesn't even register due to his outstanding success in CFB

I could see UT doing some ridiculous offer for Saban like 15 for 7. You'd better believe if there is a # out there that could make him leave Bama, Texas is trying to find it.

It's not the prices that matter, it's the margins. Any oil jobber will tell you they can often make better margins when oil is lower. If the jobbers own the land of the C-store and lease it to the c-store operator then they usually take all the margins on the gas, but those margins can often be smaller (ex: if the gas is $2.75 they may only make $0.05 per gallon in order to be price competitive as driving habits change. If it is $2.05 per gallon they may make $0.07-$0.08/gallon and actual sell more gas).

Ultimately, the price isn't as relevant as the margin since you have so many people that make money off of each gallon of oil. The jobbers will often make better margin when prices are lower.

You statement is further evidence of your "throw against the wall and hope it sticks" strategy of praying for Texas to lure Saban away.

Point of order, please.

There were two separate Saban instances of having the job offered, or at least feelers put out.

First was from a regent through the agent Sexton right after Saban won the NC over Notre Dame. Like in January 2013. This was reported by the Associated Press.

Later, Saban contact was confirmed further through open records search of regent emails for an unrelated "problem" in Austin (the school president).

Second was right at the time of the Mack Brown ousting, which was indeed ugly behind the scenes and bad timing for Saban.

The time's good now, though...

Actually, I'm hearing from the big-wig Rutgers boosters that he's either coming to coach here or they're going to break his fricking knees.

Book it.

The time's good for Texas. Why are you laughing at that? Is that your Alabama intellect shining through?

Whether the time is right for Saban will remain to be seen.

You have a 2nd year coach. Unless he leaves out for south beach, how is the timing good for Texas?

He is 64 years old. He has what, 5 or 6 more years left max...max? I think the right time for Saban to leave has passed.
