Briles is out FWIW. It was never going to happen because of his buyout.

I think they are going to give Ruffin the shot. They know its in their best interest. You notice how Ruff has bee pretty silent on the Leach issue. I'm sure Leach has warned Ruff not to say anything supportive of him because it may hinder his shot at HC. I can tell you this however, if they do pass on Ruff, I have a feeling he will have plenty to say on the issue and I don't think what he will say benefits Tech!!!!

I'm betting that they hire Ruffin, but it would be a bad hire. He's not even a very good DC. He just doesn't deserve the job.

They're reporting in Lubbock that Art Briles is no longer a candidate and that former Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden is next in line to talk with Texas Tech officials.

Donors were willing to fork out the money for Briles. But something happened and they are not interviewing him anymore.
Tubbs is still in the running as is Big Mac.
TTU will never win a Championship unless they make changes in the defense.
They are ranked in the 50's-70's in total defense.
That's great if you can score but if you can't keep them from scoring, not good.
You will never win a championship without a decent defense. Look up the stats - ALABAMA #1, Texas #2, Florida #3.
And past history tells us this too.
If they want championships Big Mac will not be there. I heard this morning on the radio show that a few Defenive players have made request to transfer, if Big Mac is not hired.
Good Job;
If TTU hires a coach based on what players want they will never win anything. Those players will be gone in a few years.
Best choice is Tubbs. Defenssive minded coach great recruter. He has recruited in hostile territory before. He had to compete with in state rivals (Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia). All schools close by.
