They heard someone on ESPN say that you have to be a cheery, sunshine up your arse guy, so now that's what they keep repeating. Texas wants to win. Mack Brown will fundraise, their new coach needs to win.

If this news is true he has to hit a homerun on OC or he will be out in 3 years. Honestly he reminds me of Chizik.

Chizik won five games at Iowa St.

Once again you prove that you don't have a clue as to what you are talking about.

His pr skills and his need to hire a great OC. Lost him and went 3-9.

You are trying to bash everyone without knowing why they stated what they stated. Let me go on a limb. You are black and mad at the bashing of a black coach.

You've yet to make a statement about Charlie Strong that harbors any credibility. So please and try to come up with something logic... I'd love to see you do so.

Charlie Strong is at least their 4th choice.

ETA: John Saunders prefers to think of him as one of a "group" of candidates, not a 3rd or 4th candidate.

Big schools in Texas and SEC have been way late on hiring black HCs.

Sumlin is raking in recruits. At Texas, Strong will do the same. Plus he's a bada$$ defensive coach in an offensive conference.

Strong is already wired into Florida high schools, now he'll be wired into Texas high schools too.

Way late? How many won a bcs national championship? How many won a Super Bowl? Late? I'd say there is another reason.

Strong is a gamble at best. Winning with Teddy and UL schedule isn't that telling of how good he would be at a big school. If they are already that far down their list they should hire Franklin. Winning anything at Vandy is more impressive than going undefeated at UL.

The real question...

who is his QB next year?

Ash, Swoopes or Heard?

(For the Texas fans here)

I worry about his offenses.

He lost to FIU and Marshall in the same season.

Last year he beat a 3-9 FIU team by 7 in a rematch and a winless Southern Miss team by 4. He got reamed by Syracuse and lost to Paul Pasqualoni.

There's no doubt he's a good coach, and there's no denying what he's done at Louisville. I think he will do well at Texas, but when we (Tennessee) all thought he was coming to Knoxville, those were my concerns. I think there are reasons to be cautious about calling it a sure NC winning hire. It may be -- I just don't know if there's enough evidence yet.

Ash has been cleared for Spring practice and is free of symptoms. Of course, until he takes a hit, who can be sure? If he's healthy and stays that way, he can get a med redshirt and have 2 more years.

I'm wondering about some of the comments here. Strong has been in the conversation as a leader since day 1. Nothing shocking about the hire.

If he is indeed able to recruit well in the SE/Florida then he will take the program to another level IMO. There are too many cooks in the kitchen in Texas now to live solely there, like Mack insisted on doing.

He'll have some of the best coaches in the country on staff. Excited about the hire is an understatement.

If we went by that logic then Les Miles or any other coach who has won at least one championship is a mediocre coach.
