Looking at their remaining schedule, if they can beat OU, it is very possible that they win out. Their schedule is easy.

Question is, do they fire Strong this weekend if they lose to OU?

Really? I think their schedule is pretty tough. Baylor, WVU, KSU, Tx Tech, and TCU? That's no cakewalk.

UT has more talent that any of them, but I agree.

If Strong can just make his defense tackle they should do well. Cal isn't as bad as usual, beating Utah last weekend and close loss at ASU. Okie State hung with Baylor and if refs knew the rules at the CMU game they'd be 4-1 likely ranked. It's not as bad as it seems for them. I'll say they go 8-4 but still won't be enough for Strong to keep his job. The boosters seem to have it out for him.

The Sooners are gonna beat em like a burnt orange-headed stepchild

And before anyone chimes in with "well they beat them last year" just remember that the sun shines on even a Longhorn's arse some days

Not unless there's something going on behind the scenes.

I think Strong leads Texas to 9+ wins and keeps his job.

i hope they win out. i'm just having a hard time seeing how the chuckster doesn't lose 3 more games.

it's entirely possible they could win out, but i wouldn't put money it.

Against schools not named UTEP, they've allowed 48.7 points per game.

Oklahoma - LOSS
Iowa State - WIN
at Kansas State - WIN
Baylor - LOSS
at Texas Tech - last score wins
West Virginia - LOSS
at Kansas - WIN
TCU - LOSS

That's a 5-7/6-6 season.

That would, of course, put Strong 2 games behind MIKE SHERMAN after 37 games and 1 game behind DENNIS FRANCHIONE after 37 games.

Baylor and TCU are not that good this year. I think Texas beats them both.

It will be hilarious when Texas wins 9 games.

I guess it shined on them again in 2014 when Oklahoma barely beat them by 5.

Also, let's not act like Oklahoma is that good defensively either. They are giving up 1 more yard per game than Texas and only 3 points less. I'm not saying Texas defense is better than Oklahoma by any means just pointing out OU isn't that great.

If it was easy Charlie wouldn't be in trouble. Half those teams beat him last year and the only reason UT got past Baylor is because the Bears were down to their 5th string QB.

OU is going to be pissed off, Iowa State managed to beat them last year so they can't be viewed as easy, and every team on that schedule will treat the 'horns like their Super Bowl.

Charlie will be lucky to make it to 7-5 and that probably won't save his job.

The problem with your rationale is that Texas isn't very good this year, either. I have then finishing 7-5, or 8-4 at best. Even if they do finish with 9 wins, really, what difference does that make? If UT suits want Herman, they're going to pursue him regardless. A 9-win season doesn't necessarily save Strong. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull the trigger if he loses to OU, so as not to take any chances of him achieving 9 wins.

It's also possible that they lose out, especially if the players perceive that they're playing for a lameduck coach.

I figure OU will beat em like 50-something to 20 or 30-something and that'll be the end of it

Austin paper this morning says high level sources saying 8 wins is the minimum Strong must have to keep his job.

OU
K State
Baylor
West Virginia
TCU
TX Tech

he has to win 4 of those. wont be easy
