The CA doesn't really support UT, but Ron Higgins (you should know who Ron is) wrote this. He is usually informed and objective.

Butch Davis
Mike Leach
Will Muschamp
Chris Peterson
Jeff Tedford

Of those Muschamp may be the dark horse.

don't see him leaving

could see this, and i expect him to take revenge on the SEC for how they treated his former boss (mumme)

Will Muschamp

too early. this could be a big mistake. he'd have to make an incredible hire at OC off top

Chris Peterson

great coach. just has well coached teams at BSU. don't know if he can keep it up with more talented/less disciplined players. he'd prolly make it work, however.

Jeff Tedford

this would be a bad, bad hire

Gary Parrish (actually a good friend of mine) is the person that broke the Albert Means story. He is now the cbssportsline.com NCAA basketball guy.

Higgins dad was SID at LSU for a long time. You can actually see Ron Higgins sitting on his dads shoulder during Billy Cannons Halloween run.

If that doesn't qualify you to be a good journalist, I don't know what does.

Jake-- all of the candidates do have a downside, I agree with all of the points you make.

I am just reporting objective news from a media source somewhat closer to the situation.

Ron Higgins works for the Memphis Commercial Appeal, he is also the President of the College Football Writers of America, and he is an LSU grad.

I think Tedford would be an excellent hire. His team fell apart last season but the expectations were far too high. He would bring a new look to a team that needs it.

I heard a rumor that he is a scientologist. If that's the case, now way he's at Tenn.

Butch Davis, Cutcliffe and Spurrier already said they are not interested. I am happy about this.

I think they should go after Pete Carrol. Give him Les Miles And Nick Saban $$$$. When he turns it down, tell him 2 shut the F--- up and get back 2 the weak pac 10 .

Out of that group, my guess would be Peterson. Not saying he would be the best candidate, but the most likely. Of course, Davis gave his "I am perfectly happy in Chapel Hill" speech today, that is akin to the dreaded vote of confidence. Still think Peterson would be the most likely. Muschamp is just not seasoned enough IMO.
